This Ryokan is run by the loveliest people you will ever meet. They go the extra mile for absolutely everything, even language barriers. They are warm, hard working... just incredible. The place is beautiful, peaceful and a great japanese experience. The onsens are great, and the food is delicious. This place should be a MUST on your itinerary!

The baths were great, however I felt a bit limied by the entry times. 6:00-9:30AM for men in the main bath not only overlaps with breakfast, but is significantly shorter and less convenient than the time available for women from 15:00-22:00PM. This also kind of applies to the baths in the basement, which get switched between genders from morning to evening, so you only ever get to experience one of them if you dont bathe three to four times a day. If I might suggest an improvement, please switch the baths in the basement just once per day, so you can experience both even if you only bathe in the morning/evening. Very small complaint, just one bath would be fine, but when you have multiple options you want to see them all.

Nothing it was the best!!!

Wow this was one of the best places I’ve ever stayed!!!! First of all the staff was so kind and accommodating. They were very good at communicating ahead of time and while there they were so hospitable. Next the food!!!!! Literally 8-10 course meals for every breakfast and dinner. The veggies were so fresh and the fish was too! Everything exceeded expectations also the restaurant downstairs was GORGEOUS. The rooms were EXTREMELY CLEAN! Also it says shared bathroom but that just means shared showers - I had my own very high tech toilet! Perfectly situated close to the Hakone Yumoto station with tons of restaurants nearby and easy access to all the fun Hakone things to do. Seriously amazing. The best! Oh I forgot the onsens !!!!! There were 2 main onsens one indoor one outdoor and then two more one male one female downstairs. THEN there was a rooftop onsen that was SO beautiful in a perfect blue bathtub. Amazing.

Our stay was exceptional. So relaxing & fantastic surroundings. Our room was very comfortable and authentic, dinner was amazing & we enjoyed the onsen. A true Japanese experience to remember. A special note to the wonderful staff and their hospitality. Especially the amazing lady of the Inn, who was so welcoming & looked after us so generously when we had to leave early in the morning. We felt treated as if old friends!

We were treated as family by the hostess, could not ask for a better service experience. The lady (I am sorry I did not get her name) was great and even gifted my son a sword from his favourite anime show. The traditional dinner and breakfast experience was also top notch.

This was our favourite place in Japan! The experience at Masutomi Ryokan was first class. From meeting the staff, to the traditional room, clothing and meals, the experience was exceptional and was very immersive. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for the traditional experience. And the rooftop onsen is a must!!

Great stay to experience traditional Japanese Ryokan with Kaiseki meals. Staff goes above and beyond. They gifted us a fan when it was hot and an umbrella as we left and it was raining. Meals were terrific. Nanu, our waitstaff took great care of us. She is so hardworking. Public and private onsen were spectacular. Close to train station for easy access.

It is a true Ryokan with very attentive host. We had a nice room with two beds and separate room with sitting area that was turned to futon beds in the evening. Food provided by the host is delicious and plenty. Ryokan has its own beautifull restaurant so no need to dine in your room. Both breakfast and dinner were great and changing day to day (we spent two nights there). Both onsen and bath area were comfortable and provided great relax after day excursions. Odd thing is that bathroom is for ladies only in the evening and gents only in the morning. But as there is separate onsen avaliable, it is no problem at all.

Lovely ryokan really close to the main hakone Yamoto station. The breakfast and dinner each day was fabulous - so much care and attention poured in to the experience. Enjoyed the onsen on-site. Overall, a really relaxing stay before heading back to the city.

The room had a stale, musty scent particularly at the entrance, also the room was hot like 30C when we first checked in. The AC was weak so it took hours for the room to cool down. Given check in time is at 3pm, the staff could’ve prepared the room ahead so we didn’t have to endure that discomfort. I did not get a good night’s sleep as the AC and/or air purifier were very loud. The meals were very pleasantly served but the vegetables tasted rather horrible. Lastly, the English instructions, whether verbal or written, were very poor so it’s a guessing game for all non-Japanese speakers

This ryokan is conveniently located just 6min easy walk from the Hakone-Yumoto Station. The onsen was fabulous, the tatami experience was amazing, the room was well-sized and comfortable.

What a great experience! I definitely recommend this Ryokan! Dinner was fabulous- please do not eat before dinner- I didn’t count how many dishes we ate- but they kept coming. But please note- You have to plan Your day in Hakone to get back to Ryokan by 18.00- to receive the dinner. Staff was very nice- the lady at the front desk doesn’t speak much english- but later we received detailed info from english speaking very nice man! For additional pay we took private onsen on the roof.

Would have liked if we were asked about dinner as we didn’t realise that all the local restaurants closed very early and it was too late to order dinner at the ryokan without a pre-order earlier in the day.

Beautiful ryokan situated just next to a river - very peaceful setting. Rooms were very clean. Onsen was clean, found that the water was very hot! The owner let us stow the luggage in our room even though we arrived before check in so we could explore the area. She was very informative about things to do as well. Wonderful traditional Japanese breakfast as well.
