Location a bit far from Yudanaka station but they provide a free shuttle.

We stayed at a regular room and a one with the private onsen. I recommend spluring for the private onsen. It's a night a day difference between the two. The regular room was still great tho. Very roomy by Janpanese standards.

Both the dinner and breakfast were exceptional and far exceeded my expectations. Private rooms for meals was unexpected and we enjoyed it very much! Portion size was perfect for my appetite.

This ryokan does not provide access to the "public" onsens in town, so if you are looking to complete the "Shibu Onsen public onsen tour" you my have to pay or gain access through another ryokan. The onsens at the hotel are fantastic though and we did not mind missing out on the "public onsens".

The ryokan is spotless and all the facilities are very well maintained. The onsens are very clean and well appointed. The staff at Wafu-no-Yado Masuya is top notch. They were very attentive and patient with us as we spoke no Japanese and it was only our second day in Japan. The breakfasts and dinners are works of art and were delicious.

If you are of advancing years and struggle even moderately with flexibility, sleeping on a futon on the floor makes getting out of bed quite an effort. However it is all part of the whole experience which wouldn't be genuine otherwise.

The whole experience was quite surreal if you had never before stayed in a ryokan. From the moment you arrive you have to surrender to the concept and embrace it otherwise it defeats the object. The staff are delightful and the decor both in the room and the public areas as traditional as it gets. The food is exquisite as you are unsure whether to eat it or frame it. Dinner is incredible and should be taken at least once. Wear the traditional clothes provided as they add to the theatre and use the onsen which are clean and relaxing.

We had the best stay, the staff were so incredible and the room and hotel itself was stunning. The beds were so comfortable and it is in a fantastic location! The hotel also puts on a free bus to the station and the monkey park which is super helpful and they also have free electric bikes to use. Amazing stay.

Communication could be better: we weren't met at the station because I had understood from the hotel's message that notifying them of arrival time was not necessary. (They said they would be at the station "after 2."). Also we were never given any information about how to use the numerous public baths in Shibu, though clearly guest staying at other inns were using them. Guests should sure to ask about these things and be proactive.

The meals and both of the onsen at this inn are lovely. The location at the end of the onsen street of Shibu makes for charming walks. The room was large enough for three futon without too much crowding.

Wafu-no-Yado Masuya was the best ryokan experience that we have in Japan so far. This ryokan is very well maintained and is very beautiful. We absolutely loved the warm hospitality of the staff and the exceptional attention to detail in everything. My 5 year old son was made very welcome with kids slippers, kids yukata, kids toothbrush set, and kids meals. We stayed for 2 nights with breakfast and dinner included and have to say the food is amazing. The kaiseki dinners are so good, and we were left feeling very full and satisfied. This ryokan is very close to the snowy monkey park and also has a very good shopping center (AEON) only 10 mins drive away. It snowed when we were there, and the view from our room window is magical. We hope to have the opportunity to stay in Wafu-no-yado Masuya when we visit Nagano next time.

    Nothing everything was great!!

Overall, we had an amazing stay and wished we could stay longer. From the very attentive and welcoming staff, beautiful location and interesting and comfortable rooms, we enjoyed every minute of our time there. We had the dinner and all I can say is “wow”!! It was delicious and beautiful. It’s very plentiful so come hungry. We also did the private Onsen which was very relaxing.

A wonderful ryokan hotel. Traditional with some modern features (an elevator, meals being served in a restaurant with high tables and chairs). Two wonderful onsen, each with indoor and outdoor baths. Very friendly staff. Great with kids. We stayed with our 7yo daughter, and they were very nice to her, and had kids' yukata and slippers. It was her first time at a ryokan and she loved it. Very clean and comfortable. Elaborate and tasty meals All other guests when we stayed were Japanese and it felt very authentic. But the staff spoke enough English to communicate without a problem A great location - although it's technically in Yudanaka and has no access to Shibu Onsen public baths (we didn't mind that as the onsen in the ryokan were plenty for us), it is right on the edge of Shibu, and you can take a pleasant walk through the village. We arrived by public bus after visiting the monkey park, and on the way back the hotel dropped us off at the train station in their van. We stayed one night, but wish we could've stayed more (they were fully booked). Highly recommended.

There wasn't that much space to store things. Also, the couple that had the twin beds had to be careful not to step on us (sleeping on futons) in order to go to the bathroom at night.

The owner and staff were very friendly. The facility was very clean. The food and services were excellent!

    Everything was good!

The Kaiseki breakfast was delish and superb! They are able to cater to our request for Muslim i.e. no meat/pork/lard etc. And they served one of the must sumptuous meal for our breakfast! delish. The fish are fresh, tofu and miso soup. The private onsen experience was good! They made the futon bed for us. And you can walk at the alley for the onsen hopping. No we did not try any :) We had private onsen at Masuya only. They provide all the amenities for you to enjoy the onsen anyway! We stayed there for the Snow Monkey experience and they advised the right and best time to go upon our arrival.
