Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomAbsolutely fabulous temple stay, at a very reasonable price! Lovely traditional room with sliding doors and a view over the garden, a beautiful shojin ryori dinner/breakfast and a warm onsen for relaxing in the evening. The temple is ideally situated for exploring the area by foot, including Okunoin Cemetery and many of Koyasan's shrines and temples.

CanadaIt was very cold moving around the temple but we were warned before coming that this was the case. Bring warm clothes if you come in winter and early spring!
Beautiful traditional accommodation with a relaxing warming sento and truly delicious vegetarian meals.

The location nearby the cemetery (walking distance), the kindness of the monks, the beauty and peacefulness of the place, the heater when it is cold, the delicacy of everything (the dinner for example)

EstoniaI wont take away any points because of it because I would rather they did not have it at all but the wifi they did provide was not working and they did not react to my message on Booking either to fix it. Also, because Koyasan has very few places open late at night it can be a problem finding proper dinner and the closest guarantee is a Family Mart which is a 20min walk. Definitely recommend reserving a seat for dinner somewhere.
We were looking for a temple "experience" while staying at Koyasan and we definitely got it. Rooms were traditional but comfortable, bathroom was shared but was no problem as that is what we were looking for and everything was clean. Sadly we were not able to book a breakfast as we probably did a very late booking and check-in. We did participate in the morning prayer which was a nice experience and we did'nt feel not wanted there. They also have a small hot bath in style of an onsen.

AustraliaThe futons and pillows weren't particularly comfortable, but they weren't worse than I expected. Hard pillow and thin futon, but honestly nothing awful.
This was one of the most incredible stays of my life. The temple was beautiful and the staff were amazing. The traditional buddhist meal was a life-changing experience. All vegan, such high-quality ingredients, made with so much care, and they were also so helpful with my partner's nut allergy (confirming that all food was safe!). I would highly recommend this stay.

BelgiumThis temple has no fire ritual, but just a prayer and (also positive) it’s not at 6am but at 7am
It’s the third time I did a “shukubō” and every time it’s a great experience! This temple even had an onsen. The food was excellent.

NicaraguaThe pillow was a little bit hard to sleep on because it had beans instead of being a regular pillow but the experience was totally worth a night of a crappy pillow.
The morning prayer was awesome, the room looked lovely, and there was a tea set with tea ready to go. Breakfast was also nice. I would stay here again in the future.

United StatesThe pillow wasn't that comfortable but the overall stay was great.
This temple stay was comfortable and well-situated in town. Directly across from bus stop #9 and a short walk to Okunion Cemetery. The stay included the option for you to participate in morning prayers (7:00am) and included breakfast. I would stay here again.

ThailandI have a big/heavy luggest, a bit difficult to move to upstairs. However, not too bad. Staff (monk) is super nice and try to support.
The location is very convenient to travel, at local bus stop no.9. Breakfast is need to advance reserve with extra charge (as I don't know during booking) In side the room, thermos bottle is provided with tea. Most facilities are good enough and clean. Very cozy to stay with peacefulness. Guest memorial (morning pray) is set at 7.00 am. Very excellent experience.
