Everything was really good. The bedding was even comfortable. It was only the pillow that was really uncomfortable.

    Beautiful setting, extraordinarily lovely.

    Nothing, I loved it all!

Stunning! If you're on the fence about booking a ryokan, do it! It's so worth it to try once. The experience is one of a kind. The nature that surrounds this ryokan is really underrated. I wish I had more time to explore and hike through the forest as I think there are a number of local temples. I highly recommend this ryokan as an experience in of itself.

Thin walls! Not a ton of privacy in that regard.

The staff were so kind & polite! Loved our private onsen and getting to see a different side of Kyoto. Everything felt intentional & authentic. Dinner and breakfast were excellent! We recommend possibly staying 2 nights if you enjoy hiking. We only got to see 1 of the local mountain shrines and underestimated how long it would take to hike up all of the stairs 😅 definitely take advantage of their shuttle service. Only other way I can think of would be to taxi. Stay here if you’re looking to see a more pampered & authentic version of Kyoto!

This hotel and its location were stunning! I loved that the hotel offers a free shuttle bus to and from train stations. The scenery on the drive to the hotel was beautiful! The room was beautiful and very comfortable. The private outdoor spa bath was perfect, surrounded by well maintained gardens. Staff were so kind and welcoming and the meals (dinner and breakfast) were delicious. Staff were able to provide a vegetarian option (asked for in advance) and double checked dietary requirements before serving meals, which was very much appreciated.

We absolutely loved our 2 night stay. We spent the day exploring the 3 beautiful temples within walking distance of the ryokan. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were extremely clean and spacious to relax in. The food was THE BEST. Loved this relaxing getaway in the middle of our trip!

The whole experience was amazing and I stand by everything I said previously. But because it is such a novel experience I would say one night is plenty!

The price may seem a little bit steep however what comes with it is, great service, and more importantly dinner (check in before 5) and breakfast in the morning! The staff was wonderful and they truly encapsulated the omotenashi experience Japan is known for!

Not having chairs. Lol! But that was entirely our option. I wanted the full cultural experience without realizing how much I appreciated chairs. They do offer rooms with chairs and even western style beds.

The convenient shuttle, the area was beautiful, the rooms had everything we needed, the meals were immaculate, and the staff was wonderful.

Such beautiful surroundings in nature. The property itself and the stunning scenery around it with great hikes and temples. The attention to detail by the Staff, the feeling of a truly authentic Ryokan experience was excellent. In more ways than I could ever express, this stay exceeded our expectations.

Our stay was during late January and the temperature can get pretty low, but the outdoor onsen was amazing to enjoy in the cold and the heated mat on the tatami mats was a nice touch.

We enjoyed the room with the private onsen and thoroughly enjoyed the dinner and breakfast that was included with the stay. The shuttle to and from the hotel was also a great convenience!

A beautiful, tranquil ryokan that I would happily stay at again!

The stone path up to the ryokan is steep (a bit dangerous for younger or older people). The pillows were very flat and hard. The extra pillows found in the closet looked dirty. The breakfast was not as good as dinner, felt a little small with mostly pickled items, rice, and soup.

The location is amazing! Right up in the mountains, full of autumnal foliage (even late in the season). It's so beautiful to look at from the moment you see the suspension bridge overlooking the river. It was the beginning of December and there were still some maple trees, plenty of red leaves on the ground. The rooms are spacious, had a heating pad on the floor, and the private garden was gorgeous and very tranquil as I took a hot bath in the ceramic tub. Dinner was served in our room and was delicious. I felt like I was in a movie. I could only stay one night but enjoyed every moment.

If you're staying only 1 night I don't suggest taking the shuttle to get to the hotel, since you will waste precious time when you can get there by bus and can check-in at 3pm normally

Scenery is beautiful, service is great and staff is kind

Lovely staff let us know that meals by the river were only during the summer - what a shame! We'll have to come back again

Beautiful views of fall foliage, overall serene and invigorating experience. Staff go above and beyond to make sure you are comfortable. Our private outdoor bath was a highlight of the whole trip. We easily reserved the shuttle bus service through the email on their webpage and it arrived right on time. We stayed 2 nights so we could have a full day to explore the nearby temples.

Beautiful area, so tranquil and wonderful staff. Everyone was so welcoming, took our bags to our rooms, picked up at the train station via shuttle. Wish I could’ve checked in earlier, to see more of the area even if not going to the room right away. But there is only one shuttle bus. They were so fantastically accommodating about my gluten allergy and made a special Kaiseki meal for me with gluten free soy sauce and all! The meals (dinner and breakfast) were an experience in themselves, and the outdoor tub was so peaceful. Rooms are simple but to be expected from a traditional inn.

Our only issue was finding a bus to the area. This was partially our fault because we didn't get to Hanazono for the shuttle in time, but also Google as it could not identify where the bus stop was so we struggled with that aspect. Once we knew what bus we needed however, it was easy going from the ryokan around Kyoto.

The area this ryokan is situated in is absolutely stunning. It's in perfect position to visit the Jingo-ji temple which is beautiful at this time of year. The staff were so helpful, and always polite. We were greeted off of the bus, after a bit of a long rainy day with smiles, welcomes and thankfully, umbrellas! We were promptly shuttled to the hotel where they had put our shipped luggage in our room so it was waiting for us. We enjoyed the food - bring big appetites! The food is traditional Japanese which was a good experience for us as it was our first time eating a traditional dinner and breakfast. We were also able to choose a shabu-shabu dinner for our second night. The staff were very understanding when we had to cancel one breakfast as I'd made a mistake with our itinerary. They were also very keen to offer a shuttle to and from the hotel, one in morning and one in the afternoon. They arranged a taxi for us with no problem, and stored our luggage for a little while after check-out so we could go and see Jingo-ji temple. The whole experience was a treat and we are very grateful to the staff.

If you want to escape busy Japanese life and you are in Kyoto book a stay here ! There is beautiful scenery and hiking trails all around to visit temples and japanese nature ! My stay was excellent, I had booked a private room with a private outdoor bath. It was relaxing and just marvelous. Food was excellent and I had an exceptional lunch by the river on a traditional Japanese terrace:) I place to go and visit especially during fall where you can enjoy the beautiful fall leaves and perfect weather !
