Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Hong KongOur room was not small but as it had bulky furniture and a pet corner, the actual usable area was reduced. It could be improved if the pet corner were cleared for those guests who had no pets with them.
Excellent location, just right at the entrance of Lake Tazawa - the starting point of the lake road. It has its own car park with ample parking spaces. The staff who served us were very good. The public outdoor onsen was very good. Both the buffet breakfast and buffet dinner were of good quality, with a good balance of Japanese and western food. Our room was in the main building, looked a little old but clean in general.

MalaysiaSome guests were given special delicacy. No where were we told how to enjoy this additional privilege, even if we were willing to pay additional. Guests stay in the same hotel but were treated differently. Bad form.
Breakfast was served in buffet style. Variety was good. Many choices of food.

AustraliaShower pressure. Varied food each day at the buffet.
We stayed for a couple of nights which provided good value. We were there to ski at Tazawako Ski Area with Powderhounds.com. We stayed in a twin western room that was a decent size and it provided nice views up the mountain. We had an ensuite, but only used the shower once as the water pressure wasn’t the best. Meals were buffet style and there was a good choice of food options that were decent without being amazing. The hotel onsen fit into the same category (ie nice but not amazing) and in addition to indoor baths for each gender, there were 3 outdoor baths of differing temperatures plus hot pots.

SingaporeHonestly the staff at reception desk are not helpful at all, I know the language barrier can be a problem but at least other hotel tried their best with translator. No explanation at all when we reached about the free drinks and onsen hours. Next day I've asked if a specific road was open, the guy just answered "I don't know"....
The onsen is super nice and big and clean with outdoor bath. Be aware that opening hours is 5-9am and then 3pm-midnight. Room super spacious with fridge. You can have free cold and hot drinks at the lounge. Lounge have a smoking area, microwave vending machine.

TaiwanThere are bugs in the room. They provide adhesive tapes to kill the bugs. Some people may not like to be a bug killer. It's better to use paper traps like that provided by Santa Land Shirakami.

JapanMy only minor issue was that the outdoor spa was not available while I was there, which was a little disappointing.
The buffet each day was delicious and varied - I really enjoyed sampling so many delights. The view and location was wonderful and I was able to use a local bus very easily each day.

United States1. One of the outdoor baths (the main one featured in their promotion pictures) was closed during our stay, but we didn't find out until we checked in. That was unfortunate. We made up for it by visiting a local Nyuto onsen, Kuroyu, instead. 2. There are non-smoking floors, but you can tell the hotel used to be all smoking facilities because the smell is still in the carpets and air. Additionally, there's a smoking room inside the lounge, and the whole lounge smells like cigarette smoke. I wanted to spend time here after the onsen, but the smell was too strong and it wasn't comfortable to stay. 3. There were two spiders in our room, but we didn't mind them and they didn't mind us. The hotel recognizes and admits they are located in a rural place, and even though they try to prevent it, bugs will happen. They leave a roll of tape for guests to use to "catch" the bugs if you choose.
The location is great, an easy drive to Tazawako and Mt. Akita-Komagatake hot springs and hikes. We came with a car so we could get around by ourselves. I noticed other guests using a shuttle bus, but to really get the most of the area I think you need a car. We enjoyed the buffet style breakfast with many different and delicious kinds of food from Akita and Japan. We liked the options on the breakfast buffet (that was included) more than we liked the dinner buffet choices (for which we paid 4,590 yen extra). We also enjoyed our Japanese style room with tatami, futons, and included toilet and shower. The room was enormous and had a great view of Mt. Akita-Komagatake's summit. The staff were friendly and tried to communicate with limited English. I speak Japanese so we switched languages, but I would feel comfortable recommending this hotel to non-Japanese speakers.

United StatesThe outdoor baths was closed for renovation and that was very upsetting. The floors were dirty. And the check out time is too early (10:00).
Great location near Lake Tazawa. Although you still need to drive to the lake from the location it’s within two miles. Outdoor bath (the one that was open) was enjoyable and the food was good.

United StatesWould have been nice to stay in the same room for both nights…
Actually stayed here for two nights in different rooms, because I ended up reserving each night separately. Both were Japanese style rooms and were very comfortable, one with regular beds and one with more traditional futon beds. Both were very comfortable for sleeping.

United StatesThis place was better suited for people who drove to the hotel, although they do have a shuttle bus to the Tazawako train station. However, to see anything else involved walking and taking the local bus system.
Both breakfast and dinner were buffet style, with a wide variety of foods to choose from. That said, the food wasn’t always top-notch, but I never left unsatisfied. However, be aware that you should allow yourself an hour for grazing, so try to show up near the beginning of your time slot. They had 2 sittings, one at 5:30 pm and another at 7:30 pm. They close it down from 7 to 7:30 pm to prepare for the 2nd sitting. We showed up at 6:30 pm the first night and were turned away due to lack of time, so we had to rebook for the 2nd sitting. Another thing I liked was that they had both indoor and outdoor baths. I liked the outdoor one especially, because I was able to look at the sky and relax more in the water.

JapanDuvet was covered in dog fur (not our dog), other dog owners left their dogs in their rooms while they went for dinner/ onsen. The dogs were crying/ barking for hours! Not the hotel's fault, but it made our dog pretty uncomfortable/ upset. The bathroom floor was also broken/ sloped. Thankfully we had the onsen so didn't need to use the shower! Also, no hand towels in the room.
The onsen was wonderful, and the breakfast buffet had great selection! Dog friendly room came with so many nice amenities (bowls, crate, pet sheets, popp bags, free sachet of food) Staff were so friendly on check in!

AustraliaHad to drag our luggage from the outside up 12 slippery steps, no ramp or anyone to help. Could not get even a small early arrival nor late departure concession even though the hotel was practically empty on our midweek departure day. One small and very thin towel per person, not enough to last you the day.
