Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

The room was spacious and luxurious with a traditional Japanese feel. The staff was really kind and helpful. We booked our stay with dinner and breakfast included and that was the best choice, both was delicious and a great experience. Both the public and private onsen experience was amazing. I would definitely book Mount View Hakone again the next time we come to Japan :)

SpainThe day I visited Hakone, it was snowing so much that the buses were not running and there was no way to get to the hotel from Gora station since private cars have also troubles in such conditions and there were no taxis for all train passangers. I called them by phone and they came to pick me up in a 4x4. I will be eternally grateful to them because the experience of staying at this hotel was incredible. The staff is very attentive and friendly. Before going to the room they left me a bigger yukata, anticipating that the one in the room would be too small for meThe room was very big with all the amenities necessary and the views of the snowy mountain were beautiful. The bed was very comfortable. The public onsen is spectacular and it is very worth booking the private onsen for an hour. Probably the most relaxing hour of my life. I booked the Medaka onsen for 2,000 yen. Highly recommended. But the best of all was the traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast. They bring you a lot of different dishes so you end up trying a lot of different things. Everything was delicious!! Although the weather conditions didn't let me visit Hakone and Ashi Lake. The experience at this hotel was magnificent. Without any doubt, when I come back to Hakone I will host here again.

United StatesThe futon on the floor was a little challenging for me, but more comfortable than the futon I had in college for sure. The room didn't have its own shower, but did have a toilet and wash sink. Apparently, you are to use the public baths to wash. The bus ride was long and winding, but I don't think a taxi would've been better.
We booked a private onsen because I have a tattoo. It was so beautiful and peaceful, great after a day of traveling. The room was authentic Japanese with kimono and tabis socks. The multi-course dinner was worth it for the experience, so much food.

The food was excellent. We booked with dinner and breakfast. The amount at dinner was almost too much. Everything, as always in Japan, was presented very beautifully. The food was also very varied with fish, meat, vegetables, etc. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive. We also booked a private bath. A nice, intimate space with 2 big, ceramic tubs with a view to a small bambooed area. The public bath area was also great with an outdoor thermal bath. The hotel also had a nice shop with drinks and gifts. The beds were really comfortable with a extra thick layer under the futon. The bus stop was right in front of the hotel.

United StatesThe private onsen is an additional charge; Also, its just an extra bus or two to arrive to the hotel from the station. Its not too bad but just something to keep in mind.
I loved the Onsens here. Tried the private and the public one. Both were great! Staff was nice and they spoke english. The room was nice! I enjoyed the meals as well.

GermanyElevator shabby and small for the size of the hotel but we could use the stairs instead so not an inconvenience. Futons were a weird east/west hybrid. Individual courses were served much too quickly during dinner and one felt rushed to eat. A real pity since the quality of the food was so good.
The traditional Japanese meals were authentic and amazing. Our room was very spacious. Friendly staff, especially at dining. Great little gift shop in the lobby. Hot baths were authentic, spacious and with the option of bathing indoors or outdoors or in your own, private bath at an added cost.

SingaporeOn one day when we were using the private onsen, the adjacent onsen kept making a lot of banging noises, it made us feel unsafe using the private onsen.

NetherlandsAside from simple connections, reaching locations nearby can take a while by public transport. Buses are often completely stuffed to the brim and run delays up to half an hour.
Fantastic experience! The most wonderful and polite staff ♥️. English communication was no problem. Yukata, obi, haori, tabi socks, and slippers are provided. Don't be afraid to wear these inside the ryokan while going to the onsen, meals, or when taking a stroll! You'll find most guests are wearing the provided clothing. The room was large and gorgeously designed, had tatami mats, comfortable futons, a warm kotatsu, nice views, great toilet, loads of storage space, etc. The room cleaning was perfect. There is a bus stop in front of the door. Some connections such as to lake Ashi are great. The onsen baths are unforgettable. You can reserve a timeslot at the service desk for a small fee. The breakfast was amazing, as was the room it was served in, with every table semi-separated from others by dividers. If I'm ever in the area again, I will definitely revisit. Please study some basic Japanese and ryokan manners before visiting to fully immerse yourself in the experience.

United StatesThere are not really any restaurants in the area at least in the winter when I was there. I didn't buy the hotel dinner and ended up having instant ramen for dinner. Gora station area and the areas on the lake are fantastic for food and amenities so I just stayed out all day.
The onsen was incredible but there are no towels so remember to bring one from your room. The bus station is right outside the hotel! Easy to take the bus from Odawara station(bullet train and Japan rail) and also down to the lake to access the pirate ship and ropeways.
