Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaI hope the design of the sink can be better. It is so easy to have water spilled around it. It will be nice to have a drying hand towel.
I love how close the hotel is to any bus stop or town. Also the food is good and the amount is generous. The public bath has an open air onsen.

GreeceNothing could have been better.
It was a superb experience, exceeding any of our expectations. The room offered a sight into a traditional Japanese room, and it was equipped with kimono and other amenities to further make this experience more memorable. I would really recommend the dinner, with a lot of tasty, traditional Japanese dishes. The onsen was another strong point, perfect for taking a few relaxing hours amidst the crazy amount of walks of the last days. Also, the quality of service is something that stood out.

CanadaThe location may be inconvenient considering it is a bit more isolated to the rest of Hakone, but bus stop was right outside, which was nice. Our room had a lack of outlets that were far from the beds, which was a bit inconvenient.
Our room and futons were very comfy and spacious for 2 people, and we liked that it provided us with a private toilet. Showers are communal sento style. It is a classic ryokan with yukata provided. Our menu had wagyu beef and a few pieces of super fresh sashimi, which were extremely delicious, and it was very filling. Overall, we had a great time here, and the surroundings were beautiful!

ItalyWe loved everything!
Our stay at Mount View Hakone was simply wonderful! The room was wide and beautiful and our futon were super comfortable. The staff was kind and helpful, explaining everything in detail. Dinner was absolutely delicious! We really appreciated being able to try Japanese cuisine dishes that you normally cannot find in restaurants, and there were so many different ones! We booked one of the private onsen and it was just so relaxing to be able to relax in the water while admiring the view on the bamboo forest. The ryokan is located a bit further out from Gora, the main town, but to be honest the peace and quiet is exactly what we were going for. The hotel is well connected and has a bus stop right in front of it, so it was easy to reach and move around. Overall, a great stay and definitely worth the trip from Tokyo!

AustraliaLocation is 45 mins to an hour from Odawara station. It's a destination stay. Once there, it was great to stay and enjoy the night.
Great private onsens. Really appreciated that the private onsens were open until 12:30am, 1am. Great meals.

Canada- The town closes way too early, which made dinner choices really limited. But this is beyond the control of the Hotel. - The outdoor onsen had a certain deterrent that was used to stop people from accessing other areas. While I understand the necessity of them, it was quite an eye sore once noticed.
- Food: Very traditional feel and tastes good at the same time. - Onsen: Area had both a indoor pool option or a outdoor hot springs option - Room: Traditional room with modern features - Location: 1 bus from Odawara Station, making it easy albeit long to access. Also 1 bus away from the Hakone Round Course, the Gotemba Outlet, and other attractions.

Hong KongNot really.
We are satisfied by its service, facilities and food. The private onsen which takes additional cost is a bit small but cozy enough and such size is very common in Japan.

AustraliaWe got bitten by mosquitos on the first night. No idea how they got in as there are fly screens on the windows. We told the staff the next day and they sprayed room and left us spray. No issues at all after that !
Staff were brilliant and super helpful. Food was a definite highlight and an amazing experience. We did the breakfast and dinner. Would highly recommend. We also booked the private onsen so we could experience it together. Amazing!

Amazing ryokan situated in Sengokuhara in Hakone, perfect for the bus but most of all the food was stunning. The private Onsen was so beautiful and actually the men’s public one was lovely too - the water did my skin a lot of good.

For us it was the perfect stay in a Japanese ryokan - spacious room with tatami and a low table and comfortable floor-low chairs, very comfortable (and large) futons, house yukata and jacket, relaxing onsen bath every evening … and an overwhelming variety of delicious food for dinner and breakfast, some of which was cooked on little stoves on the table. For us it was the perfect choice for a very clean ryokan with very friendly and attentive staff.
