Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe location was far from the train station and traffic going down to the town was very slow. There is only one main road down the mountain and traffic was often stand still, so bus rides were very long. I recommend visiting when it is not a national holiday or taking the first bus of the morning. I also wish there was a humidifier in the bedroom.
A cozy traditional ryokan with very comfortable futon. You have to get the breakfast and dinner sets - the food was incredible! We enjoyed wearing the yukata and relaxing in the onsen. The staff is very kind, the private onsen is beautiful, and the gift shop has many interesting items! We enjoyed walking around the area and exploring. This is definitely a place where you can relax and enjoy yourselves and your company. It is not fancy, but very quaint and homey.

CanadaNo complaints or concerns. There was no shower or tub in the room but it was not needed as people wash in the onsen prep cubicles before entering the onsen.
I was totally amazed at the kaiseki dinner. It was definitely worth it and actually made my trip. The presentation, the wide variety of hot and cold items, the quality of the food and the taste was all top notch. I especially appreciated the friendliness of the staff and willingness to share their culture with us tourists. The onsen experience was super. I learned that we are supposed to wash, then bathe in the onsen and then go to dinner or breakfast wearing the socks , sandals and kimono provided by the hotel. Very comfortable way to end or start the day.

AustraliaThe for was exceptional. We had read the reviews about the food and were expecting great things but honestly for the price the meals are incredible. The first night we couldn’t eat all of the meal as we had a late lunch, so the next day we deliberately didn’t eat lunch so we could ensure we ate everything served at dinner. Breakfast was equally spectacular, enough to keep us going through a busy adventurous day. This was our first stop in Japan after one night in Tokyo and 2 nights at this hotel gave us the opportunity to unwind and relax before we started the next part of our holiday. Getting there is also easy, given we had never traveled in Japan before and were off the beaten track a bit. The hotel near a bus stop, so a good spot to explore the hakone region.

The room was spacious and luxurious with a traditional Japanese feel. The staff was really kind and helpful. We booked our stay with dinner and breakfast included and that was the best choice, both was delicious and a great experience. Both the public and private onsen experience was amazing. I would definitely book Mount View Hakone again the next time we come to Japan :)

SpainThe day I visited Hakone, it was snowing so much that the buses were not running and there was no way to get to the hotel from Gora station since private cars have also troubles in such conditions and there were no taxis for all train passangers. I called them by phone and they came to pick me up in a 4x4. I will be eternally grateful to them because the experience of staying at this hotel was incredible. The staff is very attentive and friendly. Before going to the room they left me a bigger yukata, anticipating that the one in the room would be too small for meThe room was very big with all the amenities necessary and the views of the snowy mountain were beautiful. The bed was very comfortable. The public onsen is spectacular and it is very worth booking the private onsen for an hour. Probably the most relaxing hour of my life. I booked the Medaka onsen for 2,000 yen. Highly recommended. But the best of all was the traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast. They bring you a lot of different dishes so you end up trying a lot of different things. Everything was delicious!! Although the weather conditions didn't let me visit Hakone and Ashi Lake. The experience at this hotel was magnificent. Without any doubt, when I come back to Hakone I will host here again.

United StatesThe futon on the floor was a little challenging for me, but more comfortable than the futon I had in college for sure. The room didn't have its own shower, but did have a toilet and wash sink. Apparently, you are to use the public baths to wash. The bus ride was long and winding, but I don't think a taxi would've been better.
We booked a private onsen because I have a tattoo. It was so beautiful and peaceful, great after a day of traveling. The room was authentic Japanese with kimono and tabis socks. The multi-course dinner was worth it for the experience, so much food.

The food was excellent. We booked with dinner and breakfast. The amount at dinner was almost too much. Everything, as always in Japan, was presented very beautifully. The food was also very varied with fish, meat, vegetables, etc. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive. We also booked a private bath. A nice, intimate space with 2 big, ceramic tubs with a view to a small bambooed area. The public bath area was also great with an outdoor thermal bath. The hotel also had a nice shop with drinks and gifts. The beds were really comfortable with a extra thick layer under the futon. The bus stop was right in front of the hotel.

United StatesThe private onsen is an additional charge; Also, its just an extra bus or two to arrive to the hotel from the station. Its not too bad but just something to keep in mind.
I loved the Onsens here. Tried the private and the public one. Both were great! Staff was nice and they spoke english. The room was nice! I enjoyed the meals as well.

GermanyElevator shabby and small for the size of the hotel but we could use the stairs instead so not an inconvenience. Futons were a weird east/west hybrid. Individual courses were served much too quickly during dinner and one felt rushed to eat. A real pity since the quality of the food was so good.
The traditional Japanese meals were authentic and amazing. Our room was very spacious. Friendly staff, especially at dining. Great little gift shop in the lobby. Hot baths were authentic, spacious and with the option of bathing indoors or outdoors or in your own, private bath at an added cost.
