Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe kaiseki dinner and breakfast was delicious! We paid for the private onsen and that was an incredible experience. The location is amazing.

IsraelAmazing place! Here you experience the mixture of western comfort and Japanese authenticity. The rooms are really big, and the Asian beds are spacious, soft and comfy. We loved the onsen and breakfasts were various and very tasty. There is a bus stop in front of the hotel (like 3 meters from the door). From this stop there runs a direct bus to Shinjuku station. You can travel with luggage, as you don’t need to walk or take a taxi in Hakone. We loved complimentary Japanese socks! Thank you!

United StatesThere was construction going on next door, but it wasn’t really an issue other than the view out one window. No noise until well after I was up.
Great ryokan experience at a reasonable price. Both meals were good and the onsen was pleasant.

Sri LankaPrivate onsen are booked out quickly and you only have 45 minute slots, which can get a little tight when you have to plan in the washing time before getting into the onsen and the time to get ready and potentially blowdry your hair after the onsen bath. But its definitely doable.
The private onsen were extremely beautiful, the traditional japanese rooms with tatami mats were spacious and a great experience to stay at. We had a booked the plan with breakfast and dinner and the meals were absolutely exceptional abundant. The staff was also really friendly. All in all we had the most relaxing time and really fell in love with this place.

GermanyIt is a bit dated, for example the public Onsen is less fancy than the private ones, but the friendly staff and amazing food experience make up for it and make this a really special place to stay.
A real Japanese cultural experience! The highlight is the traditional bedroom, private Onsen that you can book at reception, and huge Japanese meal spreads for breakfast and dinner. You really learn about Japanese food.

BelgiumRoom is spacious but too small space for a sink to fresh up
Traditional hotel allowing you to dress up the traditional way in Kimono . The hotel disposes of very nice Onsen ( warm thermal springs) facilities and the dinner gives you a good taste of the traditional Japanese food culture. The hotel also has a very good bus connection with a stop next to the hotel.i also would like to compliment Maya who was our waitress during dinner. She was an excellent host and her good English skills made the experience so much nicer as we could establish a good connection with her .

AustraliaHighly recommend! The highlight of our japan trip and the food was the best one we had in japan too! Private onsen is only 2000yen for the smaller one which is more than enough for 2 people. Bus stop is literally in front of the hotel. We took express bus from shinjuku station directly to the hotel, one bus per hour. I will definitely come back if i have the chance

AustraliaMy only suggestion would be the addition of a small ramp to the side of the entrance steps, after a full travel day with trains and buses, it was tough having to carry (drag) our luggage up the front entrance. There is ample room off to the side for a ramp.
We loved our tub/shower in the private bathroom, a little difficult to get in and out of for older people, but lovely with the view of the mountains outside our window. Breakfast was included and it was a wonderful traditional Japanese breakfast. We loved it! We paid for dinner on our first night but ate at one of the nearby placed for our second night.

United StatesReserving the largest private onsen is competitive. You have to book in person. If you want your preferred slot, arrive early. The 2 smaller ones are not as hard to book
We stayed in a tatami room. We loved it. It’s roomy compared to our tiny rooms in Tokyo. The food was also nicely done. And we enjoyed kaiseki dining in Yukata and onsen of course

CanadaI hope the design of the sink can be better. It is so easy to have water spilled around it. It will be nice to have a drying hand towel.
I love how close the hotel is to any bus stop or town. Also the food is good and the amount is generous. The public bath has an open air onsen.

GreeceNothing could have been better.
It was a superb experience, exceeding any of our expectations. The room offered a sight into a traditional Japanese room, and it was equipped with kimono and other amenities to further make this experience more memorable. I would really recommend the dinner, with a lot of tasty, traditional Japanese dishes. The onsen was another strong point, perfect for taking a few relaxing hours amidst the crazy amount of walks of the last days. Also, the quality of service is something that stood out.

CanadaThe location may be inconvenient considering it is a bit more isolated to the rest of Hakone, but bus stop was right outside, which was nice. Our room had a lack of outlets that were far from the beds, which was a bit inconvenient.
Our room and futons were very comfy and spacious for 2 people, and we liked that it provided us with a private toilet. Showers are communal sento style. It is a classic ryokan with yukata provided. Our menu had wagyu beef and a few pieces of super fresh sashimi, which were extremely delicious, and it was very filling. Overall, we had a great time here, and the surroundings were beautiful!
