Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomI would not put this as a negative against the accommodation but if you are considering visiting, be aware that the location is quite remote and can take some time to get to if you are coming from one of the main tourist. We were travelling from Kyoto by train and the journey took around 4 hours although the views while travelling were beautiful anyway. Although it has been been mentioned in other reviews, please note that the onsen is situated in a fishing area, and our room did have a view of the dolphin pens which may be a deal breaker for some guests.
We had a group of 5 people and stayed in the Deluxe family room. Everything was clean and prepared for our arrival and the staff showed us around all of the facilities and explained everything to us in English as we did not speak much Japanese, Not all of the staff spoke English, however anytime we had a query that required it they would always help us to speak with someone who did which was extremely helpful. The room itself was extremely spacious and came with 2 large beds and 3 tatami beds that were setup for us when we went for dinner. The room had all of the amenities that you could need and also gave each person a yukata and sandals that could be worn around the entire site. The balcony overlooks the bay and other areas on the island and is very beautiful, particularly at sunrise and sunset. The food for both dinner and breakfast was exceptional. The staff were extremely attentive and explained each of the courses to us in English and were always on hand for even the smallest request. There is a fantastic walk on the top of the island that is accessible via the main lift and is a brilliant spot for photographs or just to relax in the quiet although the staff explained that it is closed when it is dark so make sure not to miss out on it if you are interested. The site has both indoor and outdoor Onsen's which are rotated between Men and Women each day. These were extremely well kept and have all of the necessities for showering beforehand etc. These were absolutely the highlight of the accommodation and I would thoroughly recommend that everyone uses them at least once during their stay. The boats to and from the mainland can be arranged with staff up to every 15 minutes and they can also arrange a free taxi shuttle service from the dock to the train station nearby I would also just like to mention about how exceptional all of the staff were. We felt welcome from the moment we set foot on the boat to the moment we stepped back off it.

United StatesBreakfast pastries could have better selection.
The start of your journey begins with a lovely boat ride to the island where the hotel is situated. Staff was wonderful and warm and made guests feel welcome. The room and facilities were a bit outdated, but everything was spotless. Our room had beautiful views overlooking the bay. We had the most amazing massage chair in our room (Japanese style family room). The onsen facilities are immaculate with awe inspiring views. The free popsicles and sake were nice touches. You can even rent fishing poles. Great hotel in a quaint fishing village close to the Kumano Kodo.

AustraliaWe arrive at the dock at about 10am and the weather was grim. They don't allow you to get on the ferry until 1pm on your day of check-in.

CanadaThe price is definitely on the higher side, and if you don't know where the hotel's boat shuttle is, you might be on for a little walk, but if you have the money and know where to go (make sure to ask the hotel in advance where to catch that boat; it is a very short walk away from the train station) your experience will be amazing.
Nakanoshima is an idyllic location; the island is the perfect place to relax and leave all your tensions behind. The personnel, facilities, and service ensure your stay is spotless and exceeds all expectations. We only stayed here for a night, but I wish I could stay for two or three more.

PhilippinesMost staff is not too good with English so there was a communication barrier, but it was easy to overcome as some staff are very good with English. Going to/from the hotel can also be difficult as you'd need to wait for their private ferry, which is not a bother as it leaves every 15 minutes or so. Surrounding area closes very early so there's not a lot to do but enjoy the relaxing and quiet atmosphere.
This hotel is like paradise! They have a private ferry to shuttle you to the hotel and when you get there, the staff are on top of assisting you with bags and anything. Rooms are a bit of a walk from the lobby (around 2-5 mins) but once you get there, you're greeted with an amazing traditional spacious tatami room and a breath-taking view. Their onsen is great too, with a huge selection of shampoo and conditioner, spacious locker area and bathing area, and an outdoor onsen as an option. Their package breakfast and dinner are also amazing, where you'll experience very traditional Japanese food. You can have a morning walk on their mountaintop, which you can access through the roof deck. There's a small shrine also to pay respects and you can watch dolphins jump around the ocean while fishing with a rented fishing rod.

SwitzerlandThe room was adverticed with a whirlpool/hottub apart from the bathtub in the bathroom but that didnt exist. We were looking forward to that and were disappointed when not having it. The instructions on how to find the ferry to the island was missing and only found it through long searches in the internet.
It's definitely the most beautyful onsen I've seen so far. Very nice location, hotel and staff. Massage seat in the room was great! My girlfriend could join the onsen even though she was tattoed.

SlovakiaThere was no information how to get to the ryokan. We knew there was a shuttle boat, but no information about how to get there and which boat was it, so we roamed around a bit until we found the port and then had to ask which boat it was. As there was a free shuttle bus from the port to the bus station, I assume they might also pick people from the bus station to the port, but no information was provided about that in advance so we walked to the port.
The ryokan was amazing - the room was beautiful, the futons comfortable, and the staff was very nice and attending. The dinner was very delicious course of several luxurious meals, and the breakfast was a japanese served meal plus a small buffet. The outdoor shared onsen was great, we loved it. Women wear a hotel-provided swimsuit in the outdoor onsen. Men onsen is separated from women and they are open from 6 till 10 and then from the afternoon till midnight. We also tried the private onsen which is an extra charge and needs to be booked in advance and it was nice. There is also a possibility to arrange a massage in your room. The dinner is served at 5 and 7 pm. They provide a free shuttle bus to the station. We plan to definitely come back again in the future, it was a highlight of our trip.

United StatesThere is nothing to complain about. I did discover that I do not care for abalone! But, that is not on the hotel; that is on me. If you do not like a lot of seafood, then enjoying food or getting full for dinner might be difficult. However, this is the tuna capital of Japan and a major seafood area. So, if you are coming to this hotel, it is likely that you love all seafood.
I love the staff, the beauty of the facility, and the onsens! Our room was gorgeous and the view from the balcony was as well. For dinner and breakfast, everything was local—including the orange juice! And oh my!
