Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaIt took me a couple of days to work out the best way into town and find some local highlights. Google maps was a bit misleading. A map for guests would have been handy. Oh, and some clear instructions of the best way to get back to Osaka.
My whole stay was amazing - the staff were attentive, the included breakfast was a lovely start to the day, the room was large (for Japan), and the views were spectacular. The library space, The Perch, was such an unexpected and beautiful space. It added to the wonderful experience I had at Negiya Ryofukaku. In fact, the hotel felt so serene, that I decided to spend a day relaxing inside. The private onsen was a lovely experience. Make sure you take a day trip to Mt Rokko - I discovered this by accident and it was one of the top 3 experiences of my holiday.

United KingdomAlmost perfect! The shops and most restaurants are closed very early :(
The reason I pick this hotel was mainly attracted by the natural onsen as its described the top three in Japan. There are both indoor and outdoor onsen, a 'must' experience to enjoy both :) Its a Japanese traditional accommodation which was running with a long family history. You'll be treated like a VIP. The landscape is amazing like paradise. A set of Kimono was provided for each guests (man & woman) My breakfast was included and its well presented. The portion was definitely good enough for me. Wow! The standard was far beyond my expectation so I ordered a Kobe beef dinner (note: you have to order 24 hours before the meal) Highly recommended as you won't be disappointed.

FranceJapanese culture expérimentation. Peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. Room : so much confortable and inspiring Onsen : so nice and relaxing. Loved thé outside bath, and 2 types of bath room are available. People : warm and caring Arima is a 1400 years old charming town with many shops, typical sweets, many activites like a Ropeway and closed to Kobe. Easy to access. We loved the small train from arimaguchi to arima Onsen.

JapanFor those who prefer new and more modern facilities this inn may not meet your expectations.
Authentic, charming, well maintained, old style onsen ryokan that’s built on the hills of Arima hot springs. Takes a bit of effort to get around inside the inn since you are going up and down hills that the inn is built on.

Really cool experience staying at a traditional Japanese hotel, has a brilliant onsen and dinner was amazing! The staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. The room itself was a little outdated but very clean.

United StatesAlthough walking up a hill is great exercise, I wish I had taken a taxi to the hotel since we had our luggage with us. Still, it was not so bad.
Stay here. You will not regret it. This was truly one of the most wonderful vacation experiences in my life. I was blown away by this Ryokan and the staff. The room was incredible, so spacious and we loved the modern yet traditional Japanese aesthetic. We opted for the room with outdoor bathtub, and it was so worth it. These beds were the most comfortable beds in our entire 2 week vacation in Japan. The onsen was truly healing to our sore and aching bodies. We added on a few meals for the full experience, and it was really lovely to seat and eat in the dining hall with the incredible views of the Arima onsen area. I highly recommend getting the meals at the hotel, although the town is nice, it is very crowded on the weekends and we waited over 1 hr in line for local restaurant to seat us as they did not take reservations. It was a delight to wear the yukata and robes to meals. It immersed us in the Ryokan experience and I was very excited to try it out. The lounge/library was also a wonderful amenity--a very aesthetic and relaxing space to take in the views of the town as well. The staff made us feel very welcome and provided world-class service. They even shuttled us to the train station upon check out for free. I dream of this place and I certainly hope to return some day.

CanadaWe did not like the breakfast, a bit too unusual for us. Even though we love Japanese food, the breakfast was not great.
Our room was lovely, though a bit cold in the porch area and washing area. We had a fabulous meal that we enjoyed in the dining room. Breakfast was not the best food to our liking and we could not get e coffee for breakfast. I had to go down to the “perch” room and have my coffee before breakfast. The Onsen was amazing

DenmarkI spent two nights here with my husband. This was our second ryokan experience and Negiya set the bar sky-high. Here are a few of the many things we loved about Negiya: 1. The service: Every single member of the staff from arrival to departure has been delightful, attentive, compassionate and dedicated to our well-being. We had the pleasure of interacting with a great number of employees from drivers to managers and we were honestly speechless after several encounters. The kindness was unlike anything we have experienced back home. 2. The food: During our stay we had two different kaiseki dinners that were like two culinary adventures. Everything was neatly arranged and the tastes were both delicious and bold at times. We especially enjoyed our dinners - but the breakfasts were also formidable. It would have been great with an explanation as to what was on our plates, but our waitress did her absolute best trying to answer all our curious questions. 3. The building and facilities: We really wanted a glimpse of a traditional Japanese ryokan and Negiya delivered that and more. Our room had beautiful tatami mats a nice view of green mountains and tree tops. The two onsens were great as well although we preferred Higurashi over Daiyokujyo because it seemed newer and more serene. We paid 3300 yen for a private onsen one night which was a pleasant experience. The whole place has an authentic feel which we both prefer to a modern one. Your priorities may differ. At the time of writing we have just left Negiya and are waiting for the Shinkansen. We wish we could truly express our gratitude to the staff and hope that this review will shed some light on how pleased we are. All the best wishes from Christopher and Emma from Denmark and Sweden.

Bulgariathe beef for the shabu shabu at dinner was good, but not excellent, a bit fatty; the water in the onsen was a bit too hot for my tolerance level; the town is a bit empty in February (not the fault of the ryokan of course)
It's a grand old building in a park, with lots of corridors and nooks; the onsen is nice and comfortable; the dinner and breakfast were good (in a nice restaurant on the premises); the lounge is a nice place to chill; the room was perfect - with comfortable beds; the staff were very well organized and helpful
