Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

FranceThe desk chair was really old. The door of the room next to mine wasn't sliding properly so every time it closed I would expect a big noise which was annoying.
Close to the station and bus stops. The room is a nice size for one people. The bed is a small futon so if you are not already use to futon you will probably have a hard time to sleep. I'm used to it so I sleep well. The desk has bid drawers to stock things Communal fridge to store food. I really appreciate the free coffee and tea all through the day in the big lounges. The onsen is nice!

AustraliaWhile an older property, I liked the ambiance of the tatami room. The smell of the tatami was very soothing. I used both the shared onsen, and also rented one is the private onsen rooms. Nogami Honkan is also a few minutes walk from Takegawara Onsen, where one can do the hot sand bath. Nogami Honkan is also tattoo friendly! I also appreciate their open support of the LGBTIA+ community. They also let me wait in the manga lounge for a few hours after check out time, since my train wasn’t until later in the afternoon. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

United KingdomLike so many of these places it was a bit tired in some areas but not enough to detract from the overall experience.
Nice old fashioned ryokan. Private onsen was a hoot, pleasant change for us to be able to participate together. Excellent Japanese breakfast. Best of all they let us check in straightaway fresh off the overnight ferry from Osaka so we could have a full day exploring Beppu.

SingaporeThe initial room we got had a stench in the hallway on the 3rd floor. The room wasn’t properly cleaned as we found thrash from the previous guest still in the room. The air condition unit when turned on gave out a foul stench unbearable to stay in. Reported to front desk who managed to get another room for us to move to. We were lucky they still had rooms. I wonder what would have happened if they didn’t. Staff was apologetic and moved us out to another available room with the same facilities attached private bathroom and toilet. I don’t think they have many so we were lucky.
The location was close to the train station and even a bus stop that could take us to Oita. The staff were very helpful. Room was a decent size and the futons were comfortable. The public Onsen was good.

AustraliaOnly the hard mattress and pillow.
Staff/owners were very helpful. I had the basic single room with shared bathroom / toilet, the mattress and pillow were rock hard. I paid for a upgrade the next day as there was one available, softer mattress and pillow. Wifi good, quiet in the evening. Onsen both public and private are great. Location maybe 5-8 minute from station.

CanadaThe blanket cover was short and my feet were out and cold.
Walking distance to the train station. The room was Japanese style, very clean. There's a small fridge in the room. The included breakfast was Japanese style too, with a lot of varieties of food. The hotel is also close to a traditional Japanese onsen bath.

JapanI would have liked an option to have breakfast there. It is an option with the other rooms, but perhaps not with this one.
The single room with shared toilet was very cozy and great for a single traveler. A shared space was right outside the door but guests were courteous. There is a shared fridge outside the rooms of which there are 8 in a row. The staff were kind and helpful. The location is fantastic, a ten minute walk from the station and only two or three minutes from a main bus stop. There are many restaurants nearby and one of the famous onsens is just around the corner.

New ZealandHot water took about 3 minutes to run hot in our room...strange for an onsen town! Futons were very firm. Even piling up several futons did not help much. Hallway carpets were a bit tired looking. Some noise from the elevator. But these things did not detract from a great experience. We walked 45 mins from the Sunflower Ferry...in the rain. Not so great and we wished we had explored a bus. Buses are the best way to get about in Beppu from the bus station just a few minutes walk up the road. If you want to go to the public onsen that has hot sand to lie in, be aware it is closed on Wednesdays.
We loved the large family room as we were sharing rooms over a 4 week period. Traditional screen doors and tatami mat floor was great. Room for large luggage and even hanging jackets. We had a private toilet and basin. A couple of western chairs helped our backs! Breakfast was a highlight with all the keiseki options...some of which were quite challenging. Loved the onsens. Large attractive public onsen plus a choice from 3 private baths. Great laundry facilities.
