Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaBreakfast was no satisfying at all, I would improve it. In my opinion there are probably too many rules in the Hotel, but maybe it's just a matter of getting used to them. It's definitely an experience. The staff don't speak English really well, so sometimes it's a bit complicated to understand all the rules.
The SPA is really good, especially the one on the roof. Capsules are big and comfortable. The Hotel location is really good: walking distance from Gion. The neighborhood is full of restaurants and pubs.

United KingdomThe lockers were too small, so I had to store my carry-on(small backpack) near reception, and a lot of ppl just left their backpacks on the locker room floor, making it hard to access my locker. Can't comment on the spa, as I have tattoos, and wasn't allowed in.
The place was clean and was at a great location.

NetherlandsThe ventilation of the smoking rooms felt a bit poor at times. Causing a smokey smell to leech into the rest of the building.
There was delicious free breakfast. And the (included) bathing facilities are wonderful. After a long day of walking around Kyoto, nothing beats sitting in a rooftop bath under the night sky (although you can't see the stars with all the city lights of course).

IsraelBreakfast didn’t have many options for people who don’t like Japanese food for breakfast. The hotel can add hard boiled egg and some cereals and it will make things much better. You should know that there are CAMERAS in public areas of the onsen, which means camera in areas you are naked. If that makes you feel uncomfortable (understandably) then book another place.
Best location, amazing onsen, very comfortable bed.

United KingdomAny western tourists - be prepared to have a very traditional experience, i.e taking shoes off around the hotel, naked spa, having to wear hotel provided pyjamas. Personally I enjoyed these quirks, but some may not!
Great location, good staff, spa really nice, good breakfast.

CanadaThe lockers were too small and cramped if more than a couple people tried to access the area at once. Having to take the elevator to the bath and restaurant was a bit of a pain.
The place felt shiny and new. The capsules were really well insulated and comfortable. The breakfast was pretty great. The bath was awesome. Excellent location in Gion but a very, very touristy area (crowded). Great price, all considered.

SpainMixed feelings with this one. Probably my main issues are more of a cultural clash, but still, it was my experience and I had already been 1 week in Japan an in 2 other capsule hotels (maybe more westernized) to be able to compare. So, it's too restrictive. They literally kidnap your shoes in a locker while you're inside and you can't leave until you give them your key every time you go out, which algo means having to make a line and wait (if there is) every time you want to go out. You have to wear slippers just for the elevator to the spa. You technically can't have your bigger luggage (the one that doesn't fit inside the locker) near you, having it to leave it at the counter (it's safe, just inconvenient), you can't have breakfast on your own clothes, you have to wear the pijamas they give you (so you have to necessarily shower after or shower and put on the pijamas again). No coin laundry machine (there is a laundry place some streets away, but still).
The staff is absolutely fantastic, friendly and always trying their best to help. There more than enough bathroom supplements to take whenever you can. The capsules are comfortable enough. It's location is perfect for a tourist, right in the middle of downtown. Maybe an acquired taste for a westerner, but the idea of a 24h spa (including professional masseuses) can be pretty useful. Included breakfast is not bad. Not-included dinner (until dawn) is actually good. Big lockers. It's clean almost all the time. They give you a free snack or tea every day you don't ask for cleaning service.

SwitzerlandPlease improve: - it is very annoying to wear sandals for 5meters walking and elevator before the spa area. Move shoe locker at ground level. Lots of shoe changes. - Please write signs in spa area and massage menu in English. - Lots of rules when to wear what. Simplify and write in English. - Very narrow personal locker.
- Nice sauna and spa area. - clean room with air-con, earplugs, headphones, tv, alarm - lots of equipments
