Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaAll the staff went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. The secluded location is great, overlooking the Islands of the Seto Inland Sea.

United KingdomNot much to say. Minor things in the room- e.g. heat and light controls can be challenging. A little noisy AC.
The building designed by Ando is amazing. The views from the room is spectacular. Food was very delicious and of course service is top notch.

JapanI think the price is reflected well in the space, the service and the food - but it is expensive. We arrived at 4:30pm and checked out a little late at 11:30 - I recommend arriving right on 3pm and perhaps asking about a late checkout or the ability to relax in the common spaces after check out, to make the most of it.
Amazing and unique hotel with fantastic architecture and views. The rooms are large and very comfortable and the semi-outdoor bath was really nice. The food was very nice and the staff explained everything enthusiastically. Beds were comfortable and high quality snacks and amenities came free with the room.

JapanA minor detail: excellent jazz music is played in the Art Lounge - it would be great to have this music in the restaurant as well, because it is often eerily quiet there….
This is an exceptional property. The design of the building is amazing, the rooms are very comfortable, spacious, bright and airy. We spent three nights here and the staff (who are all very kind, friendly and helpful - they really make this place stand out) went out of their way to make our stay extremely pleasant. The food was really very nice, and the chef very kindly arranged a different dinner and different breakfast for every night of our stay. The sommelier proposed a great wine and sake selection every night. We really enjoyed our stay!

SwitzerlandWe booked the suit with forest view, which was really disappointing. The wallpapers were coming off the wall, there were big cracks on the wall, where the air vent is located and the blinds at the outside pool area were broken. There is no real TV but only a tiny handheld device with a touch screen. There is a Dyson hair dryer in the bathroom but it can only be plugged in one specific power outlet because all the others are fixed so close to the washlet, that the Dyson plug doesn't fit in anymore. Same goes for any other device like chargers that have more than just a regular plug. This is a detail but it shows that nobody really spent a thought on the guest and how he will be using room. The private Onsen area is really big but lovelessly furnished. In the corner is a gigantic wooden box, hiding all the ducts for the pool. This box doesn't look very appealing, to say the least. The general feel and look of the outside area is very cheap. The "forest view" looks more like a "bush-view", there are some trees and bushes and a lot of bamboo but no real concept or plan as to how they are arranged. The hotel is located on the top of a mountain with an exceptional view but only 3 out of 7 rooms are actually able to see the view, which is very disappointing. The staff is young and inexperienced, which is fine, when there is propper guidance and supervision. In the case of this hotel it seems like they are left alone and nobody is teaching them how to create a luxury environment. The food was tasty and beautifully arranged but also here I was missing a truely luxury feeling. I seriously wonder what justifies the price of this hotel.
The location of the hotel, as well as the architecture are really beautiful. The lounge and the complementary drink selection is exceptional.
