Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe beds and pillows were tough- just a floor mat and basically a sack of beans- but honestly kind of added to the experience of staying in a temple. Would've been a little weird to be in an awesome bed
I'm normally a meat-eater, but the vegetarian meals were still tasty! Loved the tranquility and morning services

United StatesThe property seems a little tired with worn carpet down our hall. It should be replaced. The ofuro did not have the hot water turned on and we wasted so much water thinking it would get hot. Finally called front desk and it was fixed. Another room preparation that was neglected left us sleeping in 34 degree temperature the entire night. No one had turned on the heat and we were not aware the remote was by the tv and we did not want to call anyone at 2:00 in the morning. The room was not prepared properly for guests. It was freezing cold!!! In the morning we asked for someone to check and the heat was turned on. At the very minimum it should be set at 60 degrees upon arrival. Also we were made to feel it was not the fault of the inn; however, we paid in good faith expecting a comfortable room.
We were greeted very cordially when we arrived and property is beautiful. We booked a private bath and the two rooms were very large. It was like a guest house separate from everyone else. The dining was very very good and we enjoyed the food and service.

MexicoI have stayed in many shukubo in Koyasan but Souji-in is far the best shojin ryori in Koyasan. I love that the shukubo is enclosed, and not open to air and that has its own private toilet, so specially when it's cold (most of the year) you don't have to go out of the room

PolandIncredible experience; the meal served by the monks was one of the best meals of our month long trip to Japan. Was invited to sit in on the morning ceremony which was a unique and memorable moment.

United KingdomThis was an amazing experience, and we would recommend this to everyone. The temple stay was fantastic, the food is the best we have eaten on our trip so far. We joined the morning ceremony which was so special to be a part of, the head monk gave a little explanation at the end which we weren’t expecting. Wish we could stay longer!

FranceThe light of the AC/heater unit was very bright during the night, and the pillows were quite hard.
The dinner and breakfast were a lot bigger than I imagined. That being said, everything was delicious. The inside of the hotel building was very beautiful.

United KingdomThere was a 9/half 9 curfew which I didn't like as we wanted to explore the area in the dark. We also hoped to eat in our room but it wasn't possible.
The temple was very idyllic. It had a lovely, peaceful feel inside. We were served dinner and breakfast by the monks and the food (all vegan) was exceptionally good. Our room was very big and even had a TV (which we didn't use).

GuamThere was a bit of construction going on at the moment on the outside, but it was not loud and did not bother us, it was just difficult to locate because it looked different.
We absolutely loved the atmosphere, the food, and the accommodation itself.

ThailandWe booked rooms from this site and also the other as we are a larger group and required many rooms. The explaination on booking.com was very clear that there is a private toilet in the room but the bathroom needs to be shared. But the other site offered another type of room signifying a private bathroom, more expensive, and was not clear on the sharing bath. We expected an in-room bathroom as with a bath & toilet also with the higher priced rooms in the other website, but no, the same rooms with different names. However, their shared bath rooms were nice, onsen- like, quiet and near all our rooms. The only bit inconvenience was they only open for use only pm, around until 10 pm and close in the morning.
The Shokubo is a unique experience! We all enjoyed our stay. The rooms are not large but clean, great sleep on futons. The monks and the staffs were all kind and very welcoming. Though we have booked rooms from two booking sites, they kindly arranged all of our 4 rooms in the same quarter, next to each other and we felt very private. Thank you so much. The Shojin Ryori vegetarian dinner and the breakfast were superb! They were perfectly crafted in a special traditional manner and all were delicious, served in a calm and cozy temple dining room. One of us joined the morning prayers and got to meet the abbott who also shared the history of Soji-in. They had an English interpreter for foreigners joining the session. The shared bathrooms were nice, clean and quiet at night, with facilities similar to a basic Japanese onsens, just that the water is not the natural mineral water. The location is very nice, quiet yet almost at the Center of the town in-between Kongobuji temple and Danjo Garan. In all, a lovely and special temple lodging we all very much enjoyed.
