Superb small family run inn that is perfect in every way. The personnel are lovely, helpful and friendly. The inn itself was beautiful, super clean with quite large rooms. Our room had both a sleeping and separate sitting area, all of which was very comfortable. The beds were the best of our entire trip, firm but still soft. And the breakfasts were superb, flavorful, filling and home made. We loved all the different touches provided and will absolutely come back to stay again! It was easy to park in their offsite lot and walk into town for the onsens and restaurants.

The location is almost 1 km from downtown, we can walk but hardly to carry the luggage.

The real Japanese design for overall accommodation are excellent. The service of the three people ( may be the owner) are very warm and kindness.

The location is a little far from the main tourist attractions. It would be quite frustrating if you are taking a large luggage and without a car.

The location is not that close to Yubatake Kusatsu.

The rooms are very beautiful, clean and well prepared. One of best stay in Kusatsu. The breakfast is a homemade dish that is prepared carefully and beautifully. We are having a great time staying in Soumeian.

Just perhaps a sign somewhere in English that said 'Soumeian' as all the signage was in Japanese and I had troube finding it. Even a sign on the door as I tried the door a few times as well and couldn't see anyone so didn't know if I was in the right place.

Spacious, quiet and comfortable, private onsen was lovely, breakfast was magnificent.

The place was really beautiful: the perfect place to relax. Also the staff was very friendly and helpful, the food was delicious...I think it is the best stay I've had in Japan so far and definitely the best in kusatsu (my 3rd time there)

This ryokan was the highlight of our trip to Japan. Excellent seasonal and varied breakfast options, with an attention to detail unparalleled in my travel experience. The soaking pools met our hopes and needs perfectly, and we preferred the private rooms to any of the town’s public onsens. Our room was very comfortable and quiet, and the location was great—away from the hustle and bustle of the main square. Staff were incredible—helpful, welcoming, and friendly despite our limited Japanese language skills! Would highly recommend for a quiet, peaceful stay.

Honestly, it's very hard to come up with something. If I had to pick, WiFi was spotty, but it did the job and we weren't there to work so it didn't bother us.

This place is a gem in Kusatsu. It's on the outskirts of town, but we knew that before booking and were very happy with the quiet and calm nature of where we stayed. The space is impeccable, and we loved our room. There were 2 double beds with the most comfortable bedding I've experienced in a hotel with a Japanese tatami mat space with a desk, as well as a food area for tea and refrigerator. Very well separated and decorated. The breakfasts were delicious and meticulously crafted. Access to the hot springs at the end of the day was a major bonus, and only once did I find one of the two occupied during my 3 nights there. The yukatas and pajamas offered are very soft and comfortable. This place is worth visiting, I highly recommend it.

Slighly far from centre of the town. Since we knew this beforehand, it is a very minor issue. Taxi is useful when going around with luggage.

Very warmly welcoming and friendly personnel, attentive care, helpful service. Cosy, well-managed hot bath sections (two), which were easily available on-demand. Both of the baths are big enough for 2-3 persons. We had a spacious and well-equipped room suitable for three persons. Clean and very quiet. Comfy yukatas and thankfully one larger sized one for a bigger-size North European guy😀Fantastic breakfast, which was different every morning! A charming yakiniku restaurant nearby and importantly a 7-11 as well. Big thank you!

Room is clean and spacious. The bed is big and comfortable. A kettle of spring water was provided in the room which was a interesting experience. The breakfast is delicious and the peach( I guess the fruit may varies but we went during the peach season) is great. Private onsen is available for use 24h.

The breakfast was impressive. The best meal we had in Japan. Also, pajamas provided and robes you can wear outside when you are exploring the town. Parking was easy and it was in a very quiet area. There was a private onsen which my family, 2 adults 2 kids enjoyed. The highlight of our trip. Everything we so clean. Will love to come back to visit again on our next japan trip.

The walk from the bus station was just a bit far. If you’re carrying a lot of luggage it might be a bit of a workout. But, this means you’re away from the crowds and we really appreciated the quiet.

EVERYTHING!! The staff was so friendly, the rooms were large and clean, the yukatas they provided were beautiful, and the baths were heavenly!

They prefer to take cash as payment. Not a problem at all, but just something to keep in mind when you pay for your stay!

A really cosy and homely ryokan! The stay felt traditional. Breakfast was great too and felt home cooked. The staff were excellent and accomodating!!
