Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ChileThe location was on a hill far away the center, so the hotel provided a free bus to go down. However, departure time was too late for starting day tours (10 a.m) in the opinion of a couple of guests.
The food was amazing. A traditional Japanese breakfast with vegetarian option. All the service staff was extremely nice and did the best for our service. The room (a traditional Japanese one) was really big, beautiful and the view was the best.

United StatesEating outside once the weather turns warmer will be superior to eating inside. But I also really enjoyed the view from the dining room.
All of the meals were excellent.

CanadaIt is a beautiful location, easily reached by bus and an easy walk. The staff are exceptionally helpful and friendly. The food is excellent. The walking around the hotel is lovely. The riverside patio is gorgeous. The hotel provided a free shuttle at the end of our stay. We loved everything about this experience.

SwedenThis place really is prettier than the pictures. We were picked up by the kind hotel staff at the bus station, and the short trip down to the hotel was magical. Kiyotaki river is so beautiful, and all the foliage casts a green light over the valley. The hotel with it’s lanterns lit makes it look like a fairytale. The staff is really very friendly and helpful, the service is topnotch. The room was very cozy, with a great view from the window. The surrounding area is very quiet and peaceful with lots of hiking opportunities. The hike to hozukyo was amazing!

CanadaNothing negative. Location is up in the hills and a bit out of the way. However, the hotel has a free shuttle service.
The facilities, the location (green, peaceful), the food and most importantly the staff. Everyone was very friendly and very helpful. If you want to get a way and experience good old style, traditional Japan. This is the place to go.

AustraliaVery traditional - staff dont speak great English but this is in NO WAY a barrier to enjoying both the place and the location. Be aware that it's a little out of the way so either eat before you arrive or accept the options by the in-house kitchen (which are excellent - I'm just a "meat n potato" man myself!

AustraliaBed slightly uncomfortable, but it was an authentic experience so that’s fair enough.
I loved everything about it, except I’m obviously getting too old to sleep on the floor lol. It was an awesome experience! The bathhouse was the unexpected best part. Also Ginjoji temple was a treasure to behold!

United StatesThere’s nothing I can think of that I didn’t like.
The locations was exactly what we wanted to experience, it’s next to the river and very private, it’s quiet and relaxing. It has many cherry blossoms in the property and around it and we also enjoyed taking walks in the trails near by.

United StatesThe hotel is noticeably older, and some of the building amenities are a little dated. For a two star hotel this is expected and not a problem at all.
This hotel has one of the best services I have ever had in my life. I was greeted at the door by name upon arrival, and the lady that owned the hotel made sure that every one of my needs were met. To think this is only a two star hotel is beyond my wildest imagination. This was an amazing and authentic Japanese traditional experience. The location was talked away and a serene and beautiful location. The breakfast are the best I’ve ever had from any hotel. There was a shuttle service that took us into town at 10 AM every morning. I cannot recommend this hotel enough . Please do everything to be cordial to the hosts and attendance, because they are some of the nicest people I’ve ever met!

United KingdomNot a negative for the experience but the advert makes it seem more industrail then it was. You are treated with so many personal touches that it feels like you are the only one there.
This was by far our favourite place to stay for our entire trip in Japan. The meals are expensive but for good reason they are delicous! Could not reccommend enough.

United StatesI stayed here because I wanted a genuine Ryokan. My expcetations were met. The staff are friendly & helpful. The host & a couple workers spoke a servicable amount of English. The hotel is older but, maintained. Everything was clean. The food was excellent & priced appropriately. The hotel has a morning shuttle that will drop you off at a near location or a Train station. You have to rely on a bus line or taxi. Which took a little extra planning but it was not an issue for us. There is a bus stop just up the hill from the hotel. There are also three nearby temples that are ancient.

ArgentinaOur room smelled a lot of tobacco, but I think that’s because we reservated a smoking room. Some parts of the hotel feel a little run down but honestly, it didn’t bother us and didn’t take away from the experience.
The lady in charge of the hotel and their assistants were all extremely nice and accommodating. Since I am vegan they had to make me a different menu for dinner and breakfast but were able to create a tasty and filling japanese dishes with no animal products whatsoever. The area where the hotel is very beautiful, you can do hikes around the area and visit temples, it was a very fun experience.

AustraliaFar from main roads and facilities. Rooms are old and cold in winter. Narrow road which could make you sweat when driving.
Outstanding location, national treasure and UNESCO shrines are on your backyard. River and picturesque bridges all around you. Hospitality is outstanding. Hiroko is the best host we've ever seen before ready to help you in any situation. They even waited for us for two more hours with the dinner when we lost our car somewhere in Kyoto and could not be in time. If you want real traditional Japan experience with all the pluses and minuses this place is for you.

United StatesGreat stay, really no complaints. If every hotel were like this we wouldn't need reviews...
The hotel was very comfortable and exceptionally clean despite being a bit dated. Onsen was small, just 1 indoor tub, but I had it to myself. Food was great --especially the beef shabu -- with traditional private dining experience. Location was quiet and beautiful--great if you want to hike in the mountains. Staff was lovely, we stayed 2 nights and could have done a 3rd (we like nature). As long as you are comfortable with a traditional Japanese set-up (i.e floor bed and seats) this place is ideal. Also, for my mold and chemically sensitive folks -- I am super sensitive and, despite keeping the heat on full blast, sleeping on futons on the floor, and this being an older property, I was 100% fine here.
