Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Hong KongThere was no table for Omakase dinner in the hotel restaurant as we did not book before arrival, so we had to go to their sister hotel, by hotel shuttle bus for our omakase dinner.
Located at top of hill so car or taxi is necessary to get there. but walking down from hotel to town is easy and on the way can see all the interesting shops and past the origins of some onsen springs. Our family room for 4 has two proper comfortable large beds and another room for 2 futon beds. This area is converted to a breakfast area in the morning. On top of a nice small private onsen in the semi-open area of the room garden, the hotel has 8 private bookable onsen, 4 outdoor and 4 indoor, bookable 45 min session but must finish the session before booking another one. The lobby has unlimited supply of ice cream and tea as we arrive back after a day's shopping. I appreciate their shuttle service transporting our luggage to another hotel while we went shopping, after our checkout.

It has 8 private onsen and the room I booked has an open Air bath. A short walk to the town centre through a short-cut path that the staff told us. Very comfortable spacious room. Best onsen hotel so far for me ! Plus the front desk staff are super friendly and helpful. He can speak both English and Mandarin which is very helpful to us who can’t speak Japanese.

United StatesWe didn't like having to leave. Haha nothing negative to report.
We loved everything about this place! The staff was amazing, the room spectacular.... our only complaint is that we weren't staying longer. The onsen was amazing and the water felt great. I would highly recommend staying here. We did do the dinner and breakfast and both were great! Well worth the costs! 11 out of 10 if we could.

NetherlandsOur room was amazing, both the room and hotel are very clean. The room was quiet, our private onsen and garden were beautiful we enjoyed them a lot. There is a cattle in the room with tea and also a coffee maker. The staff was amazing, really friendly, very attentive and helped with all our questions. They reserved restaurants for us and brought us with a car to the restaurants. They also helped with arranging transport for our luggage to the next hotel. There was also a dedicated English speaking staff member. The location of the hotel is also great, it's higher up in Arima, which makes it nice quiet.

United StatesThe high price is all that keeps me from staying here multiple nights! I wish I never had to leave.
The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Don't forget to arrange a ride to the property, as it is a steep uphill walk from the train station. The latte machine in the Lobby made the BEST matcha latte, which paired very nicely with the available ice-cream treats after a hot onsen bath, or walk through the town. Within the room itself, there are many included amenities in the bathrooms for self-care and pampering. The mini-fridge is stocked with drinks, and snacks were provided as we arrived. We made sure to rent the private onsen baths twice, which were immaculate and comfortable. There are vending machines as you enter the onsen area with water, tea, and alcoholic drinks available. I'd highly recommend the Japanese style meal service, as it allows you to try a variety of Japanese dishes that aren't commonly found in many restaurants.

United StatesThe price was a bit too high probably because of Sakura season. Also they should not clean up everything that we left in the room including some high quality amenity that could have been totally reusable.
Awesome service and semi private onsen selections were amazing: The quality if the amenity, especially the ones made out of bamboo were great.

United StatesThis is an absolutely amazing place and I’m sad I only had one night here. Everything about this place was on point. They will pick you up from the train station, help you make accommodation to get to the airport, and the staff are so nice and attentive! I wasn’t able to have dinner or breakfast at the facility but I know it would have been great. The private Onsens are to die for! I had one in my room but still booked a 45m time slot to use one of the outdoor Onsens since it was included in the stay. It’s a dream! Any time I come to Japan I will make it a point to stay here. You won’t be disappointed!

United KingdomNothing it was perfect.
This is a luxury Onsen and worth every penny spent. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful even by Japanese standards. The (8) Private Onsen's themselves are an absolute delight and I recommend maximising your available time to sample as many of them as you can, the outside ones especially. A special mention goes to their shuttle bus service which will take you right to the door of any restaurant in town (my advice is follow their recommended venues) and pick up you again as soon as you call.

United StatesOur room had 2 small double beds and would have preferred one queen. I don’t know if that option was available because I didn’t see it when I was booking. I didn’t think the dinner was great, though the service was excellent.
Everything! The rooms were beautiful, loved the private tub in the room & the private hot springs rooms were lovely. The staff were friendly and helpful. They even had Netflix in English!

JapanI have a bit OCD so it does not apply to everyone. I noticed some parts of the hotel seemed not cleaned for some time; generally good though.
Fantastic services. Great facility. It's on the side of the mountain with a great view of the city. Both breakfast and Kaiseki dinner were phenomenal. The little details put into the service made the stay even more enjoyable. The cost was on the higher end, but I felt like it was worth it. I'd stay here again, if I go to Arima again.

AustraliaThe beds are not comfortable. In hindsight, my husband and I should have opted to go with tatami bedding. Suggest better mattress or get rid of the beds altogether!
It’s understated but in a nice way. Staff are very helpful and welcoming. The private Onsen is so relaxing. It’s a luxury to have it all to yourself. We booked a Kaiseki dinner and it was amazing! A big thank you to the Executive chef Yoshihiro Ogasawara!

United StatesThat you had to make a reservation for literally everything from the bath houses and the restaurants. The 10 food options were not even all available, so we had to pick out of 5 and dinner was rushed because we had an onsen slot close to the dinner reservation. It felt rushed having to make and catch each individual reservation.
Arima Onsen had a shuttle to pick us up from the train station. Upon arrival were warmly greeted by kind staff who spoke english and a beutiful and clean lobby. While we were checking in, they took our luggage up to our rooms.
