Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SpainFamily run Ryokan with a beautiful Japanese rock garden. Yo, the son speaks good English and was more than helpful. As it was a quiet time he transported us to see local sites, recommended local eateries and himself prepared excellent traditional Japanese food. Fabulous hot tub room included in the stay.

NetherlandsThe property is beautiful, with a real homely feel. You feel as if you’re visiting friends! The rooms are traditional, comfortable and clean with lovely yukatas and jackets to use around the facility. The food is wonderful! Such huge attention to detail. As westerners, we had to go into the meals with an open mind but everything was delicious and the lovely host helped us with some videos on how to eat certain things. The staff are incredible, they’re so kind. We had some problems with our bags being left behind in the UK and the lovely host couldn’t have been more helpful with the problem. He so suggested plenty of things to do in the area that we hadn’t heard of. So great!!

AustraliaIt is a little out of the way, but that’s a feature as much as it it’s a bug.
Our time at Teiensaryo was incredible! It's a family-run place and they were incredibly generous with their time and other gifts. The onsen facilities were well-equipped and easy to understand. The highlight was definitely the room. The view over the garden and koi pond was unmatched - I even got to feed them! Highly recommend. Cheers from Australia 🦘

United StatesThe local bus system! Getting to chureito pagoda was just a hassle. Our route closed early (5 pm) so we had to walk home. Also wasn't aware of the unlimited 2 day bus pass offered at fuji station untill after I spent a good deal of change. I'd recommend having your phone available because the owners of Teiensaryo know the area extremely well. We were even offered a ride back to our station when our visit was complete.
My daughter and I couldn't have had a more pleasant stay. Directions were clear as to etiquette and the room was quite spacious. A very user friendly ryokan with wonderful staff.

United StatesThe inn was magical. The traditional room with tatami mats overlooking the garden and koi pond was wonderful. The yukata robes and traditional bath was superb. Our host, Yoichi, was very accommodating. He even drove us to and from local restaurants twice and took us on a nice tour of the lake nearby. We couldn't have asked for more. We're looking forward to coming back the next time we travel to Japan.

United StatesThe interiors are old and you’ll find some creepy crawlers here and there - as you would in any stay deep in the woods. The space could use a deep clean.
Yamanakako is a very small and sleepy town. It’s fit for travelers that are looking to escape city sounds and immerse in the woods. Teiensaryo was a very pleasant stay with incredible food. The place is family run by three generations. It’s also a 5 minute walk from the bus terminal and lake. The host are very accommodating and will drop you off wherever you need to get you to your next destination.

United KingdomNo dislikes. Very happy and friendly. Wish we could of done something back for them.
The family could not have done enough for us. We arrived an hour early and they checked us in. As we were only staying one night, they wanted to make sure we experienced everything. Firstly they drove us to 3 view points of Mt Fuji, gave us specific local recommendations and ensured we enjoyed the on sight facilities. Thank you very much!

SingaporeThere's a public bath on the first floor which is really cool, but it's a pity that there isn't a shower of sorts in the room itself, it would make things alot more convenient.
The complimentary breakfast was brilliant, felt like I was royalty. Easy access they had ample parking, and there are only a few units in the whole inn, the owners are very friendly even though there was sort of a language barrier haha

AustraliaLoved the service as they offered to drive us to a sightseeing spot, dinner and back home for free. They gave us a big traditional breakfast and fish food to feed the koi fish in the pond and showed us photos of what the garden looks like in each season. We felt very looked after and recommend for anyone wanting a traditional Japanese stay.

SingaporeAs we didn’t drive, we had to reach there by public transport. However, the buses from Gotemba station comes every 1.5hrs so we had to take a taxi up which costs us 5700 yen. The best way to get there by public transport from Tokyo is to book a bus ticket from shinjuku station for 2600 yen but when we tried to book the slots were full so please book early. The bus will drop you at the bus stop only 2 min walk away from the inn
Very comfortable stay with private onsen bath to soak in. The garden was so beautiful we couldn’t stop taking pictures. For 1000 yen each we had a traditional breakfast spread with good variety of dishes. The room was spacious and the futon was so comfortable

GermanyThe building is a bit older but charming and cozy. Our room was very nice with a wonderful view of the garden. It didn’t have it’s own shower which was totally fine though since you can lock the public baths and wash yourself there in private. The garden was well taken care of and absolutely beautiful. They showed us pictures of it during the different seasons - so very pretty… The food was delicious and the owners were very kind to us. They even took us to the nicest photo spots in the area (which we never could have reached by foot) as well as to the bus stop after we checked out. Overall a wonderful experience which I can highly recommend. Amazing value for money. They even have a massage chair! We would definitely return there.

Hong KongThere is no hot water in the basin in the room. Tap water is cold and I have to walk down to the common bathroom for face washing and teeth brushing. More attention needs to be given to the cleanliness of the tables in the common bathrooms.
The ryokan is located next to the high-speed bus station. Breakfast and dinner provided are very delicious, plentiful and well-cooked and presented. The hotel does not accept solo travelers and I was surprised that my booking included meals for two persons (which I have invited a friend to come along)
