Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IndiaThe manager /owner was keen on us leaving for the station at 10 am - (which i think is wrong as they should be fine to keep our luggage after check out) - and he has smartly kept his shuttle to the station at 10 am - As our train was at 3 pm - i insisted and got a taxi and we could go around the park once more.
Togawaso was a new experience - staying in a Ryokan with futons as beds. It is one the lake with a beautiful park 2 minutes away. Property is very clean and toilets are clean and neat Common bathing area was ok as mostly it is deserted - but warm pool inside it was great and relaxing. Breakfast (western) was good.

AustraliaI loved everything about this property. But from reading other comments I can understand some people are taken aback by thin walls, futon and public bathing. Probably only stay here if you are okay with traditional Japanese style lodging and also don’t mind being far away from everything (:
If you want an authentic traditional Japanese experience in a quaint and picturesque location (far away from everything) at an affordable price Togawaso is for you! Everything about this property is lovely and so accommodating. From the location, the wonderful owners, the rooms, facilities, atmosphere and views! Our room was clean, spacious and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay with a beautiful view of Mt Fuji right out our window. The Onsen was great for relaxing at the end of a long day. It’s located right next to the lake surrounded by narrows streets full of country houses and stunning views of Mt Fuji. The locals are friendly and there’s a handful of restaurants and cafes within a short walk with amazing food and friendly staff. Borrow a bike from the property for free and ride around and feel like you’re in your own movie.

CanadaLocation is a bit far from the train station and dining options. However, free pickups and dropoffs are offered when arriving/leaving but they do need to be reserved in advance.
Absolutely lovely ryokan right next to the lake that has its own gender-separated indoor onsen. Has a very traditional Japanese feel and the owners are very friendly and accommodating. Amazing value for money. There's also a public park right next door that has views across the lake and also of Mt. Fuji. Bus stop nearby as well.

SloveniaTo be honest, my first impressions of the place were not that great - the building is a little dated, the walls are very thin and I felt the time to replace the bedding and futons has come. However, for the price, this is a very nice traditional hotel, and especially if you are on a budget, I don't think you can find a better accommodation. The views and the kindness of the lady owner make up for any minor fault.
Beautifully located by the lake and with views of Mt Fuji, this was a nice find. We could borrow bikes for free and the owner was even kind enough to take us to the station when no taxi was to be found. Rooms have nice tatami floors and some have views of Mt Fuji as well.

SpainShower was only available on the onsen. For us was okay, as we enjoy the onsen and took shower before entering the hotspring. Restaurants in the area are limitted and not very nice... Too touristic oriented. There might be other options we didn't find...
Traditional rooms, with views to Mont Fuji. Amazing! We could use the bikes and explore the area. Worth getting up early to find available bikes. The staff was very kind. I would totally recommend to visit!

ItalyThey just take cash payment, so it's important to be prepared.
This place is a true gem, a really beautiful and peaceful location, with superb views of mount Fuji and comfortable japanese rooms. They offer a delicious japanese breakfast that I highly recommend. The public bath area was also nice, small and cosy with good hot water. Staff is friendly and they offer transfers to Kawaguchiko station a few times in the morning.

MalaysiaA bit far from the restaurant. We had to walk a few km to reach the hotel since public transport was not available after 6 pm. Taxi fare was really expensive.
Besides enjoying the onsen experience, I love the great lake view from the room. If you are a nature person, you will love the scenery of Mt Fuji from Kawaguchi Lake while enjoying the refreshing morning walk.

Great location by the lake with views of Mt Fuji, it was nice not to be near the town and free bikes made it easy for us to cycle around the whole lake which was so much fun! The owners were so nice and helped with pick up and drop off at the station. Breakfast was delicious with the lake views. Amazing value for money
