Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsThe hallway to your room is shared with two other rooms. This can sometimes be a bit noisy when people go in or out The stairs to the rooms can be difficult for less abled people.
Spacious and light room in the center of Takamatsu. Tucked away in a cute alley these rooms give a traditional feel while not compromising on comfort. The staff were kind and helpful, when you speak a little (broken) Japanese.

United StatesThe communal approach was not the usual cheap approach but refined to fit the modern need and with a better service compared to the franchise hotel. Facility was equipped with the latest bathroom equipments and the service beats any modern western hotel approach. Very Japanese. This hotel is suited for the environmentally conscious travelers who also enjoys the clean toiletries, shower and sink.
The care from the staff and owner was exceptional and nothing compared to the traditional business model. The Japanese style room was simple and meticulously clean. With the honest and truthful aim of sustainability, it follows the style of zen Buddhist belief and was built with bare minimum on purpose. But it fulfills the modern need with having a Japanese bidet equipped in the toilet and exceptionally clean bathroom and a modern sink for the necessities you expect in a modern ryokan style hotel. The reception area was comfortable and designed with care. The staff and owner was very helpful and attentive. The two shared shower rooms were equipped with the latest shower heads and extra clean and water pressure was better than any other franchise hotel than Hilton or Marriot.

United KingdomNot a lot of communal space if you want to hang out and meet people however this was not a big problem for us as we were not staying here long enough.
Stayed in private Japanese style room with our own bathroom. The room was beautiful and very spacious and the facilities (bathroom, futon etc) were perfect. Microwave in room, which was great as there was no kitchen. The vibes of the hostel are also so nice, with beautiful decor and friendly staff.

FranceThe common area and the room is very small, only half the beds were occupied when I was here but I can't imagine if it is full. I think 8 people would be too many, there should be max 6 beds I think.

NorwayThe only somewhat downside was that the shower was separate downstairs which didn't bother me.
The place is super central. You are close to Kawara-machi station and the bazaar style shopping streets where there's a lot of food to be find. The room was very spacious for Japanese standards, and everything was nicely decorated with different kinds of (what looks like) found wood. Lot's of character. You have a sofa, and two desk areas to work on. There's a microwave, a fridge and water boiler and sink, and toilet in the room. I was an hour early and was let in early in my room, which is a bit unusual here. The small downstairs reception hang out area downstairs apparently turns into a pub some nights, I didn't get to experience it this time. Just a charming, no fuss set up.

PolandOnly one toilet and shower per 8 people. Not many amenities. A place to stay for one night rather than a longer period, as the common space is not very big. Lots of posters around the hostel about possible fines for breaking the hostel rules.

BelgiumClarity on what to expect - shower in room or not, improved reception area...
Expected a sparkling Japanese-style guest house -instead a ramshackle lobby, no shower in the room....the room itself was fine but the attitude of the staff was standoffish and not too friendly and it cost more than such a facility warrants, particularly in a provincial Japanese town.
