Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesIt's obviously not their fault, but the construction on the main building across the street was extremely loud and went on until the early evening on Friday and Saturday. I was really looking forward to sitting on the balcony but I wasn't able to do that as much with the construction.
The family that runs this ryokan is so lovely – they greeted me at check-in and personally showed me to my room, explained how the onsens work, and even gave me a personalized drawing! The provided yukata and towels were comfortable and the room was clean and modern.

The hotel owner and his family are very friendly to the tourists. The location is next to two hot spring resources and close to the main streets which are very convenient. The 1st floor has the decent art gallery and cafeteria with great drinks and foods. It’s our blessed to choose this hotel and make our trip very delightful

United StatesI can’t think of anything that wasn’t perfect.
The property itself is so nice and perfect and clean like a fancy hotel but the owner and his family make you feel like you’re staying with a welcoming host family. They even took photos for me, gave me a beautiful souvenir, and helped me with the kimono when I couldn’t figure it out!

United StatesI really loved it all. I would stay here again. One note of caution for the town (and not the hotel's fault): be sure to eat dinner early and pay attention to holidays. We didn't realize that a holiday was occurring on our last night there, and almost all the restaurants were closed. Two that were open refused to let us in (seemingly because we were foreigners). Luckily, an American-style pizza place was open and we didn't have to eat convenience store food on our last night in this beautiful town!
So perfect. The train ride into the town is beautiful. The actual town is full of shops, restaurants, and friendly people. Lots of beautiful hills surrounding the hotel. The view from the balcony in the room was so lovely. Service, cleanliness, attention to detail, and the artistry of the hotel would keep me coming back! The family who owns it really put their heart and soul into this hotel, and it shows. Service was friendly and professional by the sweet family who runs this business. The room was immaculate - so clean and perfectly put together. It was hard to leave the room to explore the spas because it was so nice being in there. The hotel bath was clean and relaxing. I never had to wait to use it. The incense they used in the hotel hallway was so dreamy. It smelled heavenly.

AustraliaNothing, our experience was wonderful and we highly recommend it.
The hospitality shown to us by Kazuki and his family was exceptional. From the messages and information provided when we booked through to our friendly greeting on arrival it was a great customer experience. The accommodation is in a great location which is quiet during the evenings but close to several bathing houses and the ropeway. The room and facilities are clean and comfortable. We ate breakfast at their premises across the road and also took in the art gallery. We were provided with Yakuta and towels for the bathing houses and enjoyed exploring the town at night- it’s beautifully lit by lanterns. The accommodation is within walking distance of the train station if you have average mobility. We left our luggage at the tourist information centre directly across from the station who delivered to our hotel for a very small fee. We stayed in Kinosaki the following day after we checked out and arranged to have our luggage sent back to the same location so we could easily collect before boarding the next train in the afternoon. Highly recommended this town and the accommodation. We wished we had spent longer there so we could explore nearby caves and coastal attractions.

United KingdomAbsolutely amazing stay from beginning to end. The owner and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful and really go out of their way to make your stay as perfect as possible. The room is stunning in a minimalist way, well heated, and there was a private balcony you could use. Everything was extremely clean and as my train was leaving very early in the morning, the owner made sure I had a packed breakfast and a coffee to take with me before driving me personally to the station - all well before the normal breakfast opening times, which was really appreciated!

United KingdomIt wasn't the cheapest place I stayed in my trip to Japan, but it was totally worth it. The only thing I didn't like was having to leave, I should have stayed 2 nights!
Probably the nicest place to stay in Japan! Kazuki and Haruka are lovely, a great brother - sister team who made me feel special and helped with everything. The rooms are amazing and comfortable in the annex, with a lovely clean bathroom, a nice balcony to relax in, comfortable beds and enough space and storage. The cafe downstairs, run by Haruka, is nice and they have good drip coffee and breakfast. The location is perfect to explore the town and visit all the onsen, which they will give you a map for. The ropeway is also very near, as well as shops and cafes. Kazuki offered to take me to the station and look after my luggage when I left and genuinely wanted to help me with anything throughout. If you want to relax and explore Kinosaki for a couple of days, this is the place to stay :)

Indonesiait's a little far from the station for my parents, but that's nitpicking. We took a free shuttle on arrival, and the morning we left Kinosaki onsen, the family drove us to the station. We were also worried about dinner as it was not included with the stay at the annex, but Yamada-san recommended and made reservations for us at a couple of delicious restaurants =)
lovely lovely lovely stay. If I could give higher ratings for service and hospitality than a 10, Yamada Kazuki-san and his family would get a 100. The rooms were clean and spacious, with a modern twist to a traditional Japanese room. Breakfast was simple but delicious, with great coffee. Will definitely stay again if we have the opportunity to visit in the future!

SingaporeNothing to dislike about.
Modern and beautifully designed ryokan, with private baths available for use. Even though it’s a little far from the train station, you can pay ¥200 per luggage to get your luggage transported to the ryokan at the Tourist Information Center. On checkout day, the owner will send you back to the train station. The owner is extremely friendly, able to speak well in English, and is very service oriented. He is easily contactable throughout our stay, and responds very quickly to our requests. Same goes with the staff at the ryokan - they are all very polite, able to speak English, and very service oriented. We were greeted with several surprises, such as a DIY personalized Welcome Card, and a personalized departure gift. The owner also kindly gave us the Onsen Map for free (it’s ¥50 at the Tourist Information Center), which you can use to collect stamps from the different Onsen. The room is well equipped, and the futon bed very comfortable to sleep on. The private bath fits 2, and has a nice view of the outdoor. Yukata, towel and the onsen pass are provided for. There’s also umbrella easily available if it rains. Highly recommended place to stay at if you are heading to Kinosaki Onsen.
