A little bit far away from the ski facility. If you rent the ski board or other things, you have to mentally prepare for the long way with very heave pack!8

The hotel is near to the bus station, which is very convenient to go or leave. But most let me surprise is that the houser could speak Chinese, English and Japanese very frequently! There is no problem to have a communication. The room is very beautiful and clean. Only one thing let me sorry is the smell from the kerosene stove. You need to being used to it. In next season, I might go again and hopefully I could get the same room from this hotel~!

    Nothing

Everything!! Taka and Oriphin are amazing hosts!! They are kind and friendly and super warm! They made me feel right at home as soon as I got there! They have a cute child! Which was enjoyable to be around. They gave me useful information and provided me with a wonderful tatami room. I wish I could have spent more time with them.

The Matsuo’s spoke English, Japanese, and Chinese among several other Asian dialects. They made a special effort to get to know each guest. They went above and beyond to help me with my ski rentals and luggage transportation to the airport. Such a lovely couple!

You get what you paid for. Maybe kerosene heater can turn on automatically at 4:30am...?

Location: Very convenient. Less than 5 minute walk to the ski chair lift with all my gear on. About 10 minutes to walk from the bus terminal. The main roads and footpaths are heated so no ice/snow, easy walk to get to the accomodation. Convenience store was my "best friend" during the stay, which was opposite the ski lifts (5 minute walk). Home stay: Host family (Taka, Oraphin and 2-year-old Yui) was very accomodating. Taka works at the local equipment rental (can drop his name/"Matsuo house" for discounts) and Oraphin is extremely knowledgable about the area. Little Yui is very cute too. Host family speaks fluent Japanese, English, Chinese (Mandarin) and Chinese (Cantonese) so communication is no problem. Futon was very thick and clean. With the heater blasting I had no problem sleeping in below-zero weather. I went out every night to use the public onsens in the area so didn't use the showers at the accomodation. The onsen water is great and worth travelling here for. Zao onsen region: Didn't get to see fully formed snow monsters (half monsters?) this time because of the weather so I may come back again next year. Ski courses are long and fun. The flat land up near the middle zone is a confusing maze to get through so good luck.... Need 2-3 days to fully appreciate the entire ski resort. All the courses are very wide! Few red courses were icy probaby due to the cloudy/blizzard weather (no sun). The black course I wanted to try was closed due to avalanche risk. Wonderful Japow and soft snow everywhere else! ⛄ The tomato 🍅 themed restaurant up the mountain was interesting. The snow here is a bit sticky (hard to brush off equipment), so bring gear inside to melt snow near heater.

Taka and Oraphin are extremely professional, but also very warm, nice and available. There was a powerful heater in the bedroom, and the (large) living room is heated with a fireplace. Very calm at night. Can help yourself freely with coffee and tea. All the necessary informations about the village (convenience store, onsen, even the ski resort, etc.) are explained (very clearly) at your arrival by the host(s) (who can speak many different languages fluently, including but not limited to, English and Japanese, Chinese). About the village and the ski resort: there are many traditional onsen in the village, which can be experienced without charge. Overall, the ambiance in the village is very nice, there are many restaurants which are good (among one where the owner can speak French). The ski resort is quite huge, and very natural. We had the chance to see the famous snowy trees on the top of the mountains, for many days (so it's for real!). Very recommended.

The house is homey and comfortable. It's located near onsen, restaurants, and the ski lifts, so it's easily accessible. Everywhere is within walking distance. Convenient store's located near the ski lift so you could grab anything before going to the mountain or on your way back. Taka, Oraphin, and Yui chan are very helpful and welcoming. They gave us a lot of informations that we need about the area and even help with our snowboards rentals. We had a wonderful stay and would totally recommend their place!

The guesthouse is comfortable and well-equipped with a nice common area. I was able to cook dinner and breakfast in the kitchen as well. Taka and Oraphin provided great advice on making the most of my stay and it's clear that they care deeply about the guest's experience. They helped me with ski rentals and gave me a lot of information about the mountain as well as the local onsens. They are very responsive and I really enjoyed talking with them at the end of each day.

Zao Onsen in the winter is cold and you should expect to be a little chilly. Oraphin and Taka do a good job providing warm accommodations to the rooms and offer a cozy refuge in their living room. I think the heating for our bedroom was sufficient but it may not be perfect for everyone.

Oraphin, Taka, and Yui are the best! The were so friendly and helpful. My fiance and I stayed for a few days and don't speak Japanese so Oraphin and Taka helped us reserve a private onsen and a dinner reservation at a nearby restaurant. Zao Onsen is a small town, but even still the location of the house was very close to everything and just steps away from many nice onsens. Oraphin and Taka will help you with whatever your needs may be, I would gladly come back and stay with them again!

Do not have electronic heater. This room only had the heater burned by gas, so we feel too dangerous and the smell is not good for health also.

Host is so nice and friendly. She can communicate by english fluently. Room are large enough for 6-7 people.
