Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

TaiwanLocation is a bit far from bus station (about 15 min walk from bus stop to hotel) But later I found you can check with staff for pickup service. They sent us back all the way to Shuzenji station. So it’s not a problem any more if they can help you on this.
Staff are very kind. Food is the greatest I have ever had considering the onsen hotels I have stayed before. The view from the room is like traditional Japanese style garden. Very relaxing experience! The manager gave us a ride back to Shuzenji station, and along the way the manager tried to use translator to chat with us. Really nice experience.

JapanOverall, I can’t complain but if you are expecting immersive onsen experience, onsen itself is quite small. But there is big onsen you can go to nearby.
Staff are extremely kind. You will get the feeling you are really taken care of.

United StatesThe premises was beautiful (we looked outside at a zen garden) and we really enjoyed all the amenities. The staff was simply wonderful. Suzuki-san was super attentive and made sure we had what we need. The manager Yahata-san was a simply lovely and gave us the option for a free upgrade because of some weather event that led to cancellations. The chef Nakano-san made us two lovely meals and the rest of the staff went above and beyond to make us comfortable. Yahata-san waited outside Shuzenji to take us to the train station at a specific time, which we really appreciated. Everything was the very definition of Japanese hospitality. High recommend to anyone who wants to just relax and be taken care of at a wonderful Ryokan.

Hong Kong5-star experience with excellent food, amazing environment and impeccable service. The hotel offered complimentary pick up from the train station. They also kindly catered to my vegetarian request for dinner and breakfast. The 'room' is so spacious that it's basically a house. All amenities are provided and we particularly love the garden view. All the staff are very kind and attentive. We have no problem with communication with their translation app. Highly recommend for a relaxing stay.

United StatesMy boyfriend and I stayed for one night and it was the best experience of our entire trip in Japan! I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a high quality experience and hospitality. Before our arrival, the communication to navigate to the town was already very helpful. When we finally arrived, the staff greeted us warmly and even gave us the option to pick between two different rooms. Aside from the beautiful room we had - surrounded by a Japanese garden and the spacious onsen - we were stunned by the included dinner and breakfast. The craftsmanship, attention to detail and flavor from the multiple course dinner was just incredible! It was a culinary experience that exceeded our expectations. The day of our departure, the manager of the hotel was so kind to give us a tour in the area. We were very moved by the hospitality and the time he spent to show us around. Thank you to the manager, chef Nakano and staff for such a beautiful experience. We plan to come back again one day.

SpainThis will be the easiest review I'll ever write as the experience was truly flawless and made so memorable by the team there. The staff were incredibly thoughtful; once they found out it was my husband's birthday, they not only gave us the option to upgrade our room at no extra expense, but they placed flowers and a handwritten card in the living room, gave us a birthday cake after dinner and offered us a complimentary drink of our choice. We felt so showered with love, they really went above and beyond! The hotel manager very kindly picked us up from the train station, and we could communicate through Google Translate during the short ride. They also had staff that spoke mandarin which was helpful. The room was spacious with modern touches and had a stunning garden view. The private onsen made the stay relaxing and came with high-end toiletries. Plus, the fridge was filled with different complimentary drinks like beer, tea and soda. We were happy to be provided with all the traditional loungewear that could be worn to the restaurant after a good day of soaking - plus the little guide which teaches you how to tie it properly. As someone who loves to sleep in total darkness, I really appreciated that the room had great blackout curtains and none of those annoying little flashing lights from the smoke detector, TV or aircon. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast were by far the best food we had during our entire trip (including previous trips to Japan!) Not only was every dish meticulously plated, but every bite was heavenly; it could have been Michelin-star dining. We were more than satisfied with the portions; they even wrapped some leftovers into rice balls for us to enjoy later. Last but not least, I must commend the staff because we also left our disposable camera upon departure, and they kindly shipped it to our next hotel at no extra fee. This level of customer service is unmatched and made our stay worth every penny.
