Pearly and Ranjan are the most welcoming and wonderful hosts you could imagine. We don't even know where to start - our time at the homestay was full of incredible homemade food, amazing trips around Matale with or recommended by the hosts and overall remarkable, inspiring experiences. At Pearl's Homestay you won't be missing anything: cultural experiences by visiting nearby temples, an ancient village (thanks Ranjan!) and the art of Sri Lankan food (thanks Pearly!), nature by visiting the stunning Knuckles mountains or discovering every day life in Matale, a very non-touristic city which has a lot to offer (public swimming pool, tiny gym in the mountains (ask for Ashan), spice gardens etc.). The accommodation is just perfect, it's new and has everything you need, and if you're missing something, Ranjan and Pearly always helped us out with everything. This is a strong recommendation to visit this place, it was by far our highlight of a month in Sri Lanka.

It was a superb stay! In my opinion the newly built studio apparent-like room is something rare to come by, especially in this area. The view and the food was also great.

We were so lucky to stay with Ranja and his wife Pearl. They are a lovely couple and will spoil you enormously. They will do the best they can to organise everything you like. For example, Ranja helped us find a local scooter to rent, as there was no place to rent scooters in Matale. Nothing seemed too much. They were like parents or grand parents to us. Also, the place is so beautiful! Bird sounds, balcony, monkeys and a super view, it's all there.

Lovely couple who offers a beautiful accommodation with a homey atmosphere. Both hosts are very kind and warm-hearted. We had a lot of great and interesting conversations. Pearl is an amazing cook and created a lot of delicious breakfasts based on our preferences. Her husband is a really good guy, whose family has lived in the Matale area for generations. He knows the region very well. Matale is famous for its spice diversity and as we're interested in Sri Lankan spices, he offered us a private tour around the neighborhood. We also got to know a lot of people in this tour who were very friendly. But we also had the possibility to discover Matale on our own. We chose Matale because we wanted to escape the touristic hustle and bustle of Kandy. It's a very charming town with a lot of nice people and not many tourists. There is also a Buddhist and a Hindu temple which you can visit. I think it's also possible to start a hiking tour into the Knuckles National Park. Just ask the hosts for more information. The accommodation is very clean and from the terrace you have a wonderful view of Matale. We would definitely recommend this homestay. Thank you very much!

Sometimes you stay at an accomodation and sometimes you come across a home like this. This homestay exceeded our expectations. Pearly and her husband were like family as we stepped into their home. Everything is cared for (amazing breakfast, trips to knuckles and any other place nearby). It was hard to leave this morning. Looking for a place home away from home? Look no further!

Tranquil Retreat in Matale: Serene, Spacious, and Spectacular

It's a serene and cozy hideaway with tranquil surroundings, and the spectacular view from the terrace enhances the allure of this delightful stay. The holiday home is spacious and comfortable, complete with a well-equipped kitchenette featuring a refrigerator and electric kettle. Every detail, from the amenities to the facilities, was flawless and surpassed my expectations. I was able to explore some of the attractions in Matale such as Riverston, Pitawala Pathana and Aluviharaya Rock Cave Temple while staying in here. The host extends a warm welcome and is incredibly friendly and hospitable. He provided valuable insights about attractions in Matale and was instrumental in planning my itinerary. Moreover, the breakfast served was a culinary masterpiece in itself.

My only wish is that it was a little closer to the town to walk in - half an hour and longer on the return as uphill all the way. Having said that a tuk ride was always available and not expensive

Breakfast was amazing. Pearl and Ranjan were excellent hosts nothing was too much trouble. They organised a tuk driver for me and Ranjan even came to the train station on my departure. The room was perfect and the bed very comfortable. I would happily recommend this homestay - a perfect retreat.

This felt like staying with Grandma and Grandpa. We felt very welcome and at home throughout our stay, hosts are very friendly and happy to help in anyway they can. We extended our stay so that we could do a tour around the hosts local village which was beautiful and so worthwhile. We also were able to cook dinner in their kitchen which was lovely and a nice change as we have both been traveling for a while. Highly recommend staying at Pearl’s Homestay.

I can confirm all the praise here for the place, the hosts and the breakfasts, which indeed are the best I had on my long journey through Sri Lanka. Pearl's homestay has two accommodations. One is a nice guest room in the owner's house, the other is that big separate loft, which rightly gets more bravos. I stayed in both. Both offer big terraces with a lovely view over Matale. The loft is a bit more expensive but well worth the higher price. Matale is a lively little town, more for the experienced Sri Lanka voyager. The spice garden is well worth visiting, if you want to see how those many Sri Lankan spices are grown. The real fun starts if you explore the mountains around by scooter. The silver temple about 40 km away is just lovely. The waterfalls, Riverdale and high mountains beyond are nice too, if you can take long rides on very bumpy roads. The owners managed to find me a scooter to rent.

The most extraordinary experience of genuine and friendly hospitality. We enjoyed staying in the house of Pearl and Rajan very, very much. The house is beautifully situated, with views over the valley. Rajan showed us his village, we met a lot of his family members there while he patiently explained and showed us about the growth and care of various kinds. Pearl told us about the life of the people in Sri Lanka, the educational system and much much more. But most of all they were so amazingly friendly that I really hope to get the joy of meeting them again ❤️

Ants really like this place as much as I do. They can come inside the room and search for food. I had to sweep them away every day. But this is a reality in Sri Lanka. It’s not about the property. I just share what I’ve experienced.

I absolutely loved the view from the terrace and the location. It’s away from the main road and not noisy. The house is so cozy and Pearlie and Rajan are so great people. I really enjoyed their company and those delicious meals they cooked. They treated me with so many tasty Sri Lankan curries. I loved everything. And sweats also. And they adjusted to my food preferences. Being vegetarian, not eating garlic, onion and chilly in Sri Lanka can be quite hard, almost every meal has smth I don’t eat. But they cooked for me the most delicious pure veg and sattvic food. I absolutely loved my stay there. And was kinda a bit sad yo leave.

It is better to improve the power supply arrangement as most of them were round plugs as well as multi plug was not secure enough....

Hospitality at its best.... It is a kind of home away from your home.

We couldn't seem to adjust the floor standing fan to make it quieter at night-time, so had to leave it off overnight.

Pearl and Ranju were exceptional hosts. Very friendly and keen to share their stories as they have lived in the area for a long time. Ranju had many stories about his childhood in his nearby village, and took time out to show us around the local area and describe all the fruit and spice trees and plants around the village. Breakfasts were varied, plentiful and always included a variety of fruit. Coffee was some of the best we have had in Sri Lanka. They helpfully organised a tuk-tuk tour for us to go and see the Knuckles Mountain / Forest area ... waterfalls, communications tower, mini worlds end, some fabulous viewpoints and a bathing river. They also helped us with onward travel. It was a pleasure to stay with them and we enjoyed our time there immensely.
