Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ColombiaThe rooms can get a bit warm during the day and the dorm doesn’t have a fan or a/c. The showers although clean and well maintained lack a bit of privacy
Perfect location in Tana, you are right in the city center but still in a quiet and safe street. The staff is very welcoming and the place is quite popular among locals and the queer community.

BrazilThere was the election during the period I stayed there and they didn’t say that they will be closed. So when I came back from another small island to stay there again, it was closed and I needed to find another place in the middle of the night.
Although there were people working there that didn’t speak English, they tried their best to communicate with the patrons.

AustriaSuper noisy (generator next the house runs for hours in the night, doors get slammed while ppl using the sanitary in the 1st floor), sanitary quite clean but sub standard. In our case their was no water coming out of the tubes for two days = you need to be prepared for that!
Great location in Tana, best staff ever - very kind, try to help you in any way possible, comfortable bed, good food :) Fazit: price-performance ratio really ok

GermanyI was happy that I was travelling alone because there is absolutely no privacy in the Single Cabin. The included bathroom is just seperated but a short room-divider. You have to be very close with your Partner ;) The water-pressure was nearly Zero and no hot water.
It's a nice Hostel. The staff is super nice and helpful. Everything was very clean and the food very good. I had one of the Single cabin with an included bathroom. This was really really nice.

United KingdomBathrooms. This could be improved-facilities, hot water.
The staff are awesome! So friendly, helpful and fun to be around. There’s a real vibe here. Even as a solo traveller, just chilling in the bar area is a lot of fun! I stayed a few times in the 5 weeks in Madagascar, using the hostel as a base so tried private rooms and dorms. Beds are comfy, safe and tidy!

United StatesThe actual facilities of the hostel are just ok. Hostel average, I would say. There also always seems to be someone sawing wood directly outside the girl's dorm first thing in the morning, which was weird. So, if you don't care about atmosphere or staff, you could probably find a comparable room for cheaper somewhere else, but given the dearth of places in the whole country where you can chill and compare notes with other travelers, I'd say it's well worth it to stay here, since it's probably going to be your only chance.
This, as far as I can tell, is the only actual hostel, with associated vibe, anywhere in the whole country (although lovasoa in antsirabe is close). That said, even though it's a little pricey for Madagascar, it's probably the only place you're going to meet other solo travelers. This is particularly pertinent considering room costs and guide fees in the national parks- finding travel mates really cuts down on expenses, and this is probably the only place you're likely to meet them. Aside from that, they've got great food and live events and even a decent book exchange! Rare to find nowadays, and so much appreciated. The staff were just wonderful, as well- knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful, and they all speak great English although they will let you accost them in broken French or Malagasy if you want to practice.

GermanyWatch out if you book a tour through Titan Voyage or Rija and Joel! It is possible, but don't pay half the money until the tour is over. We paid during the trip and were abandoned in Andasibe the very next day. We received no help and had to find our way back to the capital on our own. It was not the hostel's fault, they had nothing to do with it. But Rija and Joel (Titan Vojage) are the ones who contact them for the tours. Our driver Titan was drunk every night and doesn't know English (although we told the tour operator that this was important to us). To get to Toliara, I recommend a coach from Cortisse (even with wifi and power sockets on the bus).
