No breakfast - hostel staff mentioned due to covid there's no breakfast or tea or coffee, we didn't understand why this is the case as plenty of other hostels in Penang and Malaysia offer breakfast - sounded like an excuse to me Quiet - if you're wanting to mingle and meet other travellers, this isn't the place for you. Whilst lots of chill out space (sofas, TV, games), everyone seems to keep themselves to themselves. This may change in a few weeks once peak season comes, but if you want somewhere quiet then this is perfect for you

The cleanliness. My room’s bed sheet had a strange stain and I had to request to change. There were some dead bugs on the bed, clearly the room wasn’t properly clean. The common area smells really bad.

The place and the room look pretty antique and nostalgic. I like the simplicity of the design.

Property in complete disrepair and unsafe. I stayed here before COVID and it was cute and rustic but now... WOW.. Many people have had their items stolen here so the owners put signs saying they take no responsibility, didn't know that meant for the upkeep of their property too.. CCTV cameras only for show.. Staircase is a deathtrap, no locks on bathroom, the showers leak out the side of the faucet so no pressure. The front gate barely opens and closes. Bum guns are broken. Damp smells everywhere.. lazy/careless owners!

Dear other guests, this is a house is old and made of wood. You will hear everything. Please be nice to all the other guests in the Guesthouse, be quit and don't hit the ground so loudly. Our bed startet to shake every night when someone went to the bathroom. And please clean the toilet after using. Showers and toilets could be cleaner.

The cleanliness of the room itself, apart from the linen and towel, which were fine, there were windows facing the street that could use some work, or at least a thorough cleaning, to brighten the overall aspect of the 4 bed dormitory. (grimy Pictures below). Another uncomfortable aspect are the ancient steep, noisy stairs from floor one to two. And sadly there are no showers on the second floor, so in order to shower, you guessed it, down and up the creepy stairs you go.

The location of the building was okay. The general first floor facilities were spacious and comfortable, though the leather couch needs some cushions as the back is not too comfy.

the dormitory rooms in the basement have water in the walls the paint is bubbling off in the area . maybe mold . the dorms 9 and 10 are just seperated by a plaster wall but are on the wall with water inside. both dorms have the problem . no washing machine to operate anymore . the overview in booking.com says rooftop pool .... there is no rooftoop . nor a pool . the staircase still needs a touchup as 1 stair is still loose . this has nothing to do with old building and keeping the charm , its lack of maintanance . the water dispenser is conected to a filter and does give free water but not hot or cold . so if you want hot water the kettle is downstairs in the common area while the dispenser and fridge is on the end of the upper floor . booking lists this at the time of my booking with breakfast lunch and dinner ... nothing of this exists . i guess the managemnt was not too familiar with the backend as this goes with the pool too . we had a price that was fair for what this place really is but then the price rised 5 fold and is absolutely not what someone should pay for what you get there . its a penang problem as it seems that all the hostels and mixed dorms are heavily inflated.

When we got to the room it was a mess. Now there the lodging can't do anything about it, but for us it was impossible to touch the floor before reaching our stairs from our bunk bed.... We kindly asked the person who escorted us to the room which locker of the 4 offered in the room was our locker. Because the biggest must (we are traveling with a professional camera and two laptops for work) before we booked this stay were lockers, which was also shown on the advertisement that they are present. The person did not speak English very well and went to get his colleague. Their colleague came into the room very furious and started complaining about it being a holiday and still coming to work on a holiday. We completely did not understand what the problem was because we just asked which locker was meant for us. He got mad at us because all the lockers were randomly filled but not locked. He told us to take out another person's belongings and to be understanding that he had to work on a holiday. When he stepped out of the room we and 2 roommates were in shock at his reaction. From then on the man acted very unfriendly every time we walked into the residence as if everything was against his will. We slept in a room with 7 people including one couple who were anything but respectful to the other roommates. They came into the room around 2am and talked very loudly. They shone around with their flashlight and then decided to leave their nightlight on while they left the room for an hour. Then they came back into the room at 3am and left the main light on. This was our first time having a shared room where everything is open, but it was also our last time. IMPORTANT TO KNOW: the room with double bunk beds is on the street side. This is a nightlife street so there is a lot of night noise so it is not ideal for light sleepers.

We were received by a very friendly man. There were no more private rooms available so we thought it might be nice to take a shared room where they offer double bunk beds. This was our first time but probably our last time taking a shared room that is completely open

Really awful . Unfriendly staff , didnt even say hello when I greeted them Not safe at night , property is not locked. Lots of signs on the walls about thieves. Really noisy at night as rooms are not soundproofed. Bathrooms are not separated by sex .
