“No house should ever be on a hill or on anything. It should be of the hill. Belonging to it. Hill and house should live together each the happier for the other. Frank Lloyd Wright” What a gem! The location is stunning and the accommodation faultless! Food is hearty and plentiful, service and friendliness is faultless! I could have stayed a lot longer and just listened to the sounds of the hills! Huge secure garage for motorbike parking. The team have created something special here and if you’re reading this, trust me, just book! Good luck to Rob and his wonderful team! I will see you again one day 👍

This is a very special place, like none I've ever stayed in across 20+ years of travel throughout southern Europe! The guesthouse is in a splendid traditional village house restored with incredible care and attention to detail. Our room felt ancient and modern all at once, with rustic touches seamlessly blended to accommodate all of the modern conveniences one could ever desire. It is in a pristine slate-roofed village in a quiet untouched mountain region that feels lost in time. Richard is an incredible host: the food and hospitality were top of class from the moment we arrived.

    Leaving.

Great host and his passion for his accommodation, attention to detail and quirkiness. Rooms were tastefully decorated, large bed and room with wooden beams. Evening meal and breakfasts delicious, there were always extra portions. Secure parking for motorcycle. If in the area we would stay there again.

Such a warm welcome to a beautiful old house with a gorgeous pool. We loved the evening meal which was served in a very sociable atmosphere with the other guests. A huge thank you to Eugenia and Juan for being so hospitable while the owner was unavoidably away.

Alas swimming pool not open, looks stunning but a bit early in april. This will be lovely in summer

Such a beautiful place. Nestled in such a sleepy traditional mountain village in the parc, you don't expect when you open the door the beautiful airy atrium, lovely rooms and how it feels inside. This is a gem. Eugenia (sorry spelling) made us so welcome, the food was great. Kids loved it. We did the 8km walk to the reservoir (recommend). Cafe montesinho is great fun and made some lovely cakes. Good mountain villages around to visit (we visited one that straddled Portugal/Spain half an hour a way). Oh and a lovely grand piano. We were the only people staying so I played a lot of Satie. Overall fab. The family room is actually two bedrooms in a suite so very comfortable if bringing kids.

If your Satnav asks you to join a dirt track - ignore it. The correct road has tarmac right to the door!

Robert is a marvellous host. He runs a beautiful establishment in a wonderful rural location. We loved everything about our stay.

Rooms are not air-conditioned, which, during a heat wave can make them quite hot at night.

A light near the room door would help a lot to find the lock when opening/ closing

The building is an old stone and wood made house, but updated with a lot of charm. Our room was big and really comfortable. We enjoyed a lot the pool, and the garden with amazing and delicious breakfasts and dinners, made by Robert, our charming host. Is just a perfect place if you want to rest and disconnect.

Everything was well, but it could be even better if there would be TV in the room (there is TV in the living room, though) and more light in the rooms, especially reading lights, and maybe some more books to read, as there isn't much to do in Montesinho.

We loved our stay - Mr Robert is a great host and a wonderful cooker! The breakfast and dinner were great. The house has the charm of a rustic northern country house but with an english atmosphere at the same time. We especially loved the garden with the swimming pool, and the ping-pong table. The place is very quiet, it is good for a peaceful break from the city.

We booked one night at this place, but when we arrived, we decided to stay one more night because we felt in love with the house, the pool etc. Is located in a very nice and small village, in the Mountains. The breakfast and the dinner is very good. Robert is an excellent host. Our little dog was very happy and we also because she could run freely without worring that she could escape. The room is big, cozy and the bed comfortable. We enjoyed it a lot!

Montesinho is a charming village inside a nature park in Northern Portugal. A Lagosta Perdida is an inn hidden inside one of a remodeled stone house. Charming and well kept but the issues we encountered during our one night stay were disheartening. Since the village has almost no eating options, you are forced to eat at the inn and the food in both meals we had there was mediocre. Roasted chicken with potatoes for dinner and yogurt and croissant for breakfast. There was no hot water nor heat during the night, once I complained about it, the couple running the place became very rude, making up all kind of excuses. After that, the service became Indifferent and we were ignored from that point on. We left for a long hike after breakfast and when we returned to pick up our luggage, the place was locked and we had to sneak through the kitchen to be able to access our room with no one from the couple of workers to be seen. Shouldn’t they had called us to inform that the place would be closed? As much as we loved the nature park and Montesinho, a Lagosta Perdida is a sad example of mismanagement and unprofessional behavior.
