“The food was tasty, especially the delicious grilled fish and tabouleh in the evening, breakfast portions were generous and the breakfast waiter was attentive to details of our order. The setting for the evening meal was lovely. The colonial theme in the villas worked well. All in all, it was the escape from the city we had hoped for.”
“Gold star service. After waiting patiently for my delayed flight (for over two hours!), my driver, Osman, told me so many tales of Qatar, its rapid development and its colourful people. When we turned off the main road and he said “Welcome to the desert”, and that was the start of the most amazing 48 hours. I was greeted with warm smiles, interest and patience. Nothing I asked for was ever denied. I have medicine that needs to be stored in fridges and freezers and Al Barari just took care of it, no issues (and this is huge for those of you that know). The luxurious tent that was my villa (number 9) was beautiful and off to the left where it is very secluded. I could see sunset from my patio. The staff are amazing and never enter your enclosure without your permission. Sagar, Shan Ali, Kawtar (thanks for getting me on the electric sand bike! I felt like I was in Mad Max.), Anand, Rabiqul, Alamine, Bishram and more (thank you room service!) treated me so well, kept my villa sparkling and made me feel so welcome. I don’t know the name of the security guard who, at 2am, came to shut my gates (that I had stupidly left open) in the middle of the storm but I will always remember him with gratitude. I highly recommend going to the Inland Sea with them. I went after check out (which they so kindly allowed me to extend). I had a blast with Tahir (amazing driver and photographer) in the massive sand dunes. And he knows where the best sunset spot is. The crazy thing is when I was arranging the trip days before, I had asked whether there was anywhere to shower, afterward as I would have checked out. Shan Ali remembered, mentioned it to Mr Taha (the lovely general manager) and they allowed me to shower in one of the empty villas before my flight. And there’s more. As I wanted to see the Souq Waqif before flying, they took me there on the way to airport and I got to also see the city and do some shopping before they dropped me at the airport.”
