Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

United StatesRoom given was a little different than what was shown when I booked. Wifi wasn't working in my room, three stop and starts later they tried to find me a different room but showed me three different rooms but none of them had covers on the toilet. Ultimately decided to stay and just used the internet in the main areas. Not a dealbreaker but for the price paid would expect the internet to be working / for there to be other room options since the hotel is massive.
Manager did work to try to help me quite a bit with the room / wifi, the hotel is very central and the beds are clean and shower is decent. Breakfast was nice and they packed a box for me when I had to leave very early one day. They also helped me to arrange taxis to the gorilla trekking which was very helpful.

United KingdomReceptionist was unfriendly and tried to charge us for a meal we didn’t have - when she realised her mistake did not apologise. There is no aircon in the room. We arrived for breakfast one morning about 30 mins after it had started and there was very little out - only had coffee and toast available. The following day when we came later the breakfast was ok.
Great central location. Big comfortable bed. Hot shower.

HungaryBreakfast could be richer with some cheese, but they prepare omelettes just ask!
Location was excellent, in the centre of Musanze accessible and there are all services around. Pharmacies, restaurants, markets, etc.. staff were excellent. I requested a late check out which they granted, and they dropped the additional fee when they knew my husband got sick and he needed to rest longer in the room after being discharged from the clinic. Staff at the reception was very nice and friendly, the same at the restaurant. Food is very tasty and they bring it to the room. Very comfortable and clean rooms and they brought extra towels we requested.

IrelandAlthough the shower was hot, the pressure of the shower was not great but overall a really comfortable clean spacious room. Only one small bottle of water was provided in a double room.
The bed was huge and the mattress was firm and very comfortable. The room was very clean. The breakfast was very good and staff were helpful. They provide a toothbrush and toothpaste which is helpful if you've forgotten either!

United StatesAgnes was absolutely amazing! She checked us in and walked us to our room and made us feel like we were at home. There was mango juice to greet us In reception and Agnes make sure that Every need with Met. She recommended places of interest in the area, places to eat, including the restaurant facility at the hotel. Agnes was completely genuine as she asked us how our stay was how comfortable are rooms were, and said she looked forward to seeing us again when we departed from the hotel. meeting Agnes and her warm hospitality was one of the highlights of my traveling through Rwanda.

FranceWe had an absolutely wonderful stay at Virunga hotel. We stayed in the hotel for almost a week and were always warmly welcomed back after our days in the national park. Frank, the hotel manager was always available for any questions and helped us a lot to organise our time in Musanze and the National Park. Didier always provided us with the best service in the restaurant, breakfast and dinner. James was always there to give us advice about places to see in Gisenyi. In general everyone made us feel at home and was extremely friendly. The people at Virunga really made our stay in Musanze as pleasant as it was! The rooms are comfortable and have everything you need while exploring the Volcanoes National Park. The bathrooms is good, the beds are comfortable and both dinner and breakfast are delicious. We would highly recommend anyone to stay here!! We would love to comeback ourselves. Thank you everyone for making this stay and unforgettable experience in Rwanda!
