One of the best places I've ever stayed. It's not the right place for those who want something luxury but it's the place for people appreciating good taste and home atmosphere. It's former jail, yes, but it's one of the coziest places I've seen. I enjoyed everything: cozy atmosphere, comfortable bed, inner decor, breakfast, easy check in at night. Special thank you for fresh flowers and candles! They really gave the feeling of home. It was so nice to talk to the owner at the end of my stay and to learn the story of family business. Wishing all the best to this nice couple!

The bathrooms and showers are common so it is good to take it into account if you’re in hurry in the morning.

The building is very well preserved and beautiful. The room was cosy and clean. The staff was very accommodating and polite.

Room doors are very heavy and will slam shut very loudly if you don't remember to close them gently.

I did not like that the neighbouring guest was working from the room for hours with video calls. He was disturbing and very noisy. I was on the trip for work and could not concentrate nor rest during several hours so had to go exhausted to my work and meetings.

It was a great stay with a very friendly personnel. Totally recommended for a short stay. The rooms are quite small. The shared shower and toilets were clean. I liked the breakfast, but it was quite crowded, so it felt a bit anxious. Great breakfast, but recommended to get early to it, towards the end there were not everything of the buffet. The place was from a walking distance from the Umeå centrum.

the 'room' (the annexet) was clean; it was a large studio for 6 persons so well enough for 4 persons breakfast was great, very much choice; very friendly and helpful staff good location close to the center; the building was an old prison; very nice to be there. We will certainly go back one day.

Nothing to complain about at all..

Gamla Fängelse - old Prison - is one of the nicest hotels i ever stayed in. It is very special, stylish and nice, rooms are - of course, its an old prison cell - small and have common use bathrooms and showerd, which are good an absolutely clean. There is a large common room an the groundfloor and the kitchen on the 1st floor can be used by guests. A ggod Swedish breakfast is included. All staff are very courteous and friendly, The hotel is close to the riverfront and some 800m from the center of Umeå

Booked this room as only available in the city due to busy weekend. Hesitant due to shared bathroom. Pleasantly surprised by cleanliness (both my room and the bathrooms). Comfortable bed in the (small) room - prior cells. Staff extremely helpful and nice!
