The thermostat didn't work and kept giving error signs stating, something like "access not allowed ", so we gave up on it, but it got to 61 degrees in the middle of the night, and we ended up calling the front desk. It took about 5 minutes to reach someone who brought us an extra blanket and a space heater within 10 minutes. The staff said she never heard of this error message, but after we reported this problem, the thermostat all of sudden worked. Housekeeping service can do better at cleaning. The bathroom was not cleaned and the wash towels were not replaced.

The location is great as it's 1 minute walk to the beach.and 5 minutes walk to shops and restaurants around Ocean Avenue. The upper level of the property has partial view of the ocean. Some of the staff (younger staff) were very courteous, hospitable and friendly. Buffet breakfast was delightful and you get to enjoy partial view of the ocean, enhancing the dining experience. The happy hour, complimentary wine adds a nice touch. The property is kept clean with well maintained courtyard, garden and pool. Very relaxing to sit out in the courtyard. We'll come back again.

At first we were given a room that was terrible!! I just had surgery. I need it to be on a ground floor room. They put us in a very dark small room.! Mind you paying close to $700 a night. But after telling management that this was unacceptable. They were able to find a better room for us, and we were most appreciative.!

the rooms are tiny. I booked a king size room but we were put into a mobility accessible room. it smelled of paint and had no shower head, just a hand held shower with literally a trickle of water coming out. there was no chairs in a room, no place to put toiletries in the bathroom (I had to ask for a chair to be brought in), the heater was located low in a wall and was super noisy and didn’t look very safe - it was an actual electric hot plate heater, looked like a fire hazard to me - the room was just renovated, it made no sense. no closet. there was loudstomping on the floor above us until 11 pm, so no sound proofing. we normally would not complain but this room was impossible, so we were transferred to a “normal” comfy room with a huge water pressure out a normal shower head and enough furniture in a room. it made me so sad for a “mobility affected person” who had to stay in the first room. it was that uncomfortable. it felt very passive aggressive to handicapped persons. I felt offended and I am no mobility challenged. there was a lot of construction material around the hotel and inside half of the building. it was not mentioned in the description, we were charged $800 a night nevertheless.

one of few hotels in Carmel by the sea that has property for a garden and a small pool. beautiful grounds, comfy lobby and restaurant area open to seating all day. wine and sangria in the afternoon. wonderful breakfast included in the stay. 4 min walk to the beach and the towns restaurants. they provided a shuttle to and from town. the staff is super friendly and accommodating.

Transparency of charges. Failed lock on guest room door causing us to be locked out for several hours. Staff had to break into the room in order to fix. That said, the engineering staff were great.

The room was always warm/hot. Maybe there was lack of ventilation or the heater was programed to stay on. We had a fan that we kept on with the windows open which helped to some extent but the room was always warm even though outside was foggy and cool.

The staff was very helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend it to anyone for its location and cleanliness. Will surely return.

The original room we were given on checkin was very small and had a terrible view but the hotel was accommodating and moved us to a room that was more to our liking.

The room was very small and offered no view, no balcony, no elevator, (4th floor), and a bathroom so small that we could only open the door halfway before it was stopped by the sink. There was no welcoming bottle of wine/champagne for our 25th anniversary. There was bottle water in our room but it was $9/bottle! For $850/night, you'd think they could include this.

The breakfast and location were both great! And the staff were very friendly. The happy hour and cookies were also very nice. The free shuttle was great to have as well. And the location was awesome.
