Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThere are a lot of stairs. And the reception is on the second floor. Upon arrival you’ll need to ring the doorbell and some one will automatically open the gate for you. Then you head to the second floor for check in and the third for the rooms. The shower area is quite small and the shower is right above your had. Overall it was a pleasant stay.
Our room looked like it had been clean not long before we arrived which is good. They provided us with towels and some toiletries. In the morning one of the staffs asked if we needed extra towels of soap. The bed and pillows were comfortable enough and the room was spacious. Considering what we paid for 2 nights, I think it was fair! San Francisco is dealing with homelessness and drug crisis and eventually there were a few homeless people where the building is located but we had no issues with them. Also, within a 5-min walk you’ll find the shopping hub with IKEA, Macys, some high end brands. So it was a nice location.

United StatesIt’s in a very seedy area of town, and you should be careful walking around at night. I only felt safe because my husband was with me, but it may not be the best option for solo female travelers.
The hotel itself is fine. It’s affordable and was good for one night.

Price is low for a standard room in sfo with private bathroom. The staff is very kind and willing to satisfy requests such as keeping the luggages for half a day after check out. Property is clean

United StatesTo check into Elite Inn, you need to press the buzzer to the left of the steel door to be let in. There is no sign indicating this so I wasn't sure the door went to the hotel. The entire city of San Francisco is experiencing a tough time, and the location where Elite Inn is located is no exception. Poor ventilation in the room.
It was an extremely cheap place to stay and available on short notice. The rooms are spacious, much bigger than most SROs, and if you have a room with a private bathroom, the hot water temperature and pressure are reliable. The sheets and towels were white and smelled fresh and clean.

NetherlandsNo elevator, so we had to carry the suitcases to the third floor 😅 (normally not really a big issue but we were making a 3 month road trip so you can imagine the suitcases being a bit heavy and all) Apparently the hotel is in the Tenderloin neighborhood. I had no idea when I booked this but this is not the neighborhood for tourists... Do yourself a favor and do a quick Google search about the good and bad neighborhoods before you book a hotel 😂 In the end we had no trouble with it, as long as you just walk straight to Union Square and not the other way because that actually was scary. Also loud music at night and a lot of people shouting but that was part of the Tenderloin problem not the hotel.
Nice room. Friendly staff.

United StatesUnsafe place with the worst safe ever. I went locked in my room due the another guest was trying kill someone in his room and in the hall. Anything from the hotel took any action and when I made the complaint I was judged and heard from the manager “in San Francisco everybody use drugs, we can’t do anything “
There is nothing that can be good.

United StatesDuring my final night in the neighborhood apartment, a disturbing incident occurred with a couple engaging in a violent fight. The man was physically aggressive towards the woman, and the altercation, marked by screams and threats, persisted from 2 am to 6 am. Despite the severity, no hotel employee called the police, leaving us frightened and paralyzed in our room. The morning after, during checkout, I questioned the receptionist about the lack of intervention, but he denied hearing anything and placed the responsibility on me to arrange cabs.
The price

BrazilRude staff, the receptionist didn’t know how to do check in. Had to call his manager, who wouldn’t pick up because it was midnight. He also tried to charge me 40 extra dollars because he couldn’t find my reservation, so he decided to charge me extra for that. When I asked him why he stated screaming at me. The room was full of hair in the bathroom, it still had some used soap in the shower. It was quite disgusting and stressful

United KingdomJust grotty, dingy, bed was a bit manky… look it’s very cheap for central SF, but still expensive by our standards. It is a budget, no frills place. It’s fine. It’s no better than that.
Central, cheap in relative terms, was literally there and had a bed & a shower. Check in & out was easy.

CanadaIt was shockingly grimy, felt very unsafe and unclean. We ended up leaving and carrying all pout stuff 3 blocks to a holiday inn express as our car was locked in the parking across the street
