The grounds of the state park are well kept and beautiful. The decor is elegant but not gaudy. Staff was very friendly.

The pillows could be better. There were many on the bed but they had no support or comfort.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. We brought our dog and she was welcomed everywhere we went. The hotel was beautiful and spacious. The wedding I was in town for, at the hotel, was very well done and the accommodations were great. Overall am excellent stay.

While lobby decor was quite elegant, our 2-room suite furniture was very dated looking and seemed inappropriate to the era. Luggage rack was on its last legs. Walls were thin; not soundproof. Our neighbor played FOX NEWS until midnight and then turned it on again at 7 am and we could hear every report.

We came for the historic spa and appreciated the way features had only been only lightly renovated. We also had one dinner (on the patio) at the hotel and enjoyed the food. The room was clean, with a comfy bed. Room overlooked the patio and beautiful golf course grounds.

Definitely the location: beautiful park with easy access to spa services (Roosevelt) as well as car museum, SPAC and even a small concert hall- so much to do along with outdoor activities.

Breakfast was very average. The cleaners had dirty sheets and towels piled up in the corridors, very poor look and unhygienic.

Location was lovely in the Spa park. The rooms were nice and spacious.

I did not care for the portable bathrooms located near the parking lot! what an eye sore. They we’re needed for an event on the front grounds.

The Gideon Putnam is a perfect spot with a surrounding park….. gorgeous grounds!

housekeeping prepping my room did not leave adequate supplies, no toilet to last a single nights stay, no creamer for in room coffee, debris under the radiator in bathroom and under the dresser in sleeping area

Room was clean but a light bulb would have been nice! Breakfast too pricey -tho the room and outdoor terrace were pleasant to dine in but continental option would be appreciated.

This is a beautiful setting and a grande dame hotel with a lot of style and creaky joints. I loved that it is NOT slick, polished or too modernized—but its all heart. If you can accept the “historical feel”, it is a gracious comfortable place to come home to. The staff is lovely and working so hard to keep things going during a resurgence in travelers. The shuttle was very convenient—to the track and downtown. Walking the grounds of the park in the morning -or evening- a wonderful bonus. We loved our stay.

Front desk person at check in and on two other occasions left much to be desired. Room was not dusted very well. Coffee maker, bathroom cabinet above toilet and tile weren't wiped down. I borrowed a brush from housekeeping to clean the toilet. Two of the three dispensers in shower were absolutely empty. I got them replaced by a housekeeper in the hallway.

All of the staff with one exception were wonderful. Golf course, pool and food options were excellent.

We had to pay extra resort fees to the hotel even we already had payed resort fee to booking.com. For the price of $400 per night, breakfast was not included. Upon our arrival a staff was not interested to offer a map, inform what amenities hotel had ( what was included in resort fee ? ). Coffee was offered in the lobby only during breakfast which was nice, but for the price of the room, the hotel could offer coffee and hot water all day. I asked a housekeeper not to clean the room, but bring one towel for the bathroom floor, but that was not done. It was lots of dust behind a heater in the bathroom.

parking, location, comfortable mattress, big room, beautiful green grass and flowers and rocking chairs outside the hotel. The hotel has shuttle bus, but we did not use it.
