How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

The pool levels were being checked (which I do appreciate) but it meant we weren’t able to take the kids swimming the morning of our departure.
Breakfast was great! & The hotel was just 20 minutes away from a wedding we were attending at The Grand, so it was perfect!

Not crazy that you check in in one bldg, and then you have to walk outside to get to your room. Bldgs appear to be attached, but “you can’t get there from here”. And I’m sure it’s not too much of an issue when the weather is nice, but when it’s cold, rainy, snowy, etc., it’s a different story.
Clean. Nice spacious rooms.

The food in American hotels is inedible for Europeans. Breakfasts are mainly disgusting scrambled eggs or an egg omelette made of powder with the consistency of slime. Plus baked potatoes that taste like they've been reheated 14 times. The bread is distastefully sweet. On the plus side, baked vegetables are moderately tasty and pancaces can be made fresh on site.

After we decided to stay a second night, the second two-bedroom king suite we were assigned to was, SMH-horrible. The refrigerator door looked like someone took a hammer and banged numerous dents in several areas, there was a stain on the rug, missing glasses, cabinets did not close, one bathroom shower floor looked unclean, and the suite smelled. After we alerted the staff that room was not acceptable, their staff was great about taking our disappoint into consideration, and they accommodated us with a discount. As a traveler, I expected all Sonesta suites to live up to the high standards shown in the company's website room photos. However, I was let down to learn that another suite might not be of the highest caliber.
The breakfast was delicious! The first two-bedroom king was beautiful!

The bed was comfortable but the linens seemed to be of lower quality. The hotel's location is a bit remote -- about 45 minutes' drive from Jersey City.
We received a free upgrade so our suite was surprisingly large. The kitchen was more than functional and had a nice breakfast bar. The room was quiet and clean. The breakfast offered at the hotel was better than average for a chain hotel.

Rules for pets people who bring their dog should have them on a leash at all Times
Breakfast was good pool was cool 😎 only thing the hot tub was out of order facility was clean with nice ambience definitely recommended especially during nice weather for outside amenities

The room was really far away from the front desk and the breakfast location. Parking was surprisingly small for such a large hotel. Had to park at a distance from the room. Could hear noises outside during the day, but fairly quiet at night.
Good, quiet location. The room was huge and wonderful! Lots of great amenities in the room. Large TV. Nice shower and bathroom. Breakfast was standard hotel food, but really good. Staff was kind and welcoming. Lots of families.

The price was higher than I normally pay but i did book within a week of travel.
Love this Sonesta and always stay her when visiting NJ. The location and breakfast was good. I love that you get more space and i had 2 bathrooms.

The room smelled sweaty. I think the carpet needed cleaning. The lobby bathroom was a mess. The hot tub still isn't available.
Sonesta is our go to place and usually it is clean and comfortable. The room was conveniently located and nice and big! I love the gym and pool and also the breakfasts!
