Great value experience in Chicago downtown

    • Small Queen Room
    • Stayed 2 nights

The logistics to have housekeeping were not super clear, but we didn't feel the need for it Perhaps a larger lounge area would be appreciated

Very well located, close to big tourist hotspots and nice restaurants (and the river!) Staff was incredibly nice and allowed us for a check-in about 1.5h earlier than the time The restrooms are very well equipped, good soaps, shampoos, etc. Free refillable water bottles is a MAJOR plus Gym was much better than what I would expect for a hotel this size

I just was not a fan of my room itself. The hotel is quite dated. The photos definitely don’t represent the room i got. It was very dark and facing other buildings. While it was clean, it felt a bit stuffy and like i was given a room at the bottom of the barrel that no one cares about haha. River view rooms are the way to go. the fridge had a bad odor so i didn’t use it. walls are thin so you can hear quite a lot. no extra internal locks on the doors for extra security. only a single deadbolt. The staff is hit or miss. some were very kind, some didn’t seem to want any interaction whatsoever with guests.

Average experience here for the 1 night that i stayed. Excellent price for rooms and the location is absolutely perfect. The rooms are spacious and the beds are very comfortable. I know a lot of people don’t like the kiosk check in and check out but i actually loved this and it was very easy to do. The room was very quiet. Good AC and control of that within the room and very hot water in the shower. i stayed here as a solo female traveler and felt safe. You need a room card to use the elevator. I do wish there were extra internal locks on the room doors for added safety though. There was only a deadbolt. Overall i don’t think i would stay here again but for budget traveling in chicago this is a good option.

There was no hair dryer or mini-fridge.

The location was wonderful and allowed us to easily walk to the location of our conference as well as restaurants in the area. It was an easy walk to the train platforms to venture further out of the city without relying on Uber. Ronnie at the front desk was amazing and gave some great recommendations for activities/food.

The walls were quite thin and I could hear a couple in the room next to me screaming at each other, which wasn’t particularly pleasant but not the fault of the hotel. Quite loud next to the road - could hear police cars all night.

Free coffee on the second floor! Comfy beds! Great shampoos etc, Good value, very affordable Location is very central which was handy for my stay.

Would stay again but avoid RUDE valet.

Valet guy was so rude and kept telling us we had to buy the valet at the same time we bought the room. There was no option to buy valet when we booked the room and we kept telling him that. He wanted to argue with us and honestly made our first impression of the hotel a terrible one! The gentleman inside the hotel said the valet guy does this often, so I'm not sure why he is allowed to stay! We ended up parking a car in a garage ourselves and paying more because he didn't trust the valet and frankly didn't like him so we didn't want to deal with him at all. Absolutely HORRIBLE experience and very bad first impression of the hotel. Thankfully the employees inside made up for it. Room also does not have a fridge or microwave.

Staff was incredibly nice and helpful. The gentleman with dark hair in a bun by far exceeded our expectations of the check in process. I found the speed of the elevator to be fine for us, but it was a smaller elevator so during very busy times I'm sure there would be a wait. Room was smaller than "normal" but we didn't mind. Bed was very comfortable! Shower had good pressure and stayed warm. Room was clean. Hotel was quiet which was nice! Area felt very safe. We would gladly stay here again if we come back.

The fridge was noisy and not working. The air conditioning is very noisy. You can hear the voices from other nearby rooms.

The location is nice, near Trump tower. Opposite to bus station that can take you to all places in Chicago . Water coolers are available and also coffee machine free of charge. Baggage holding is available for hours free of charge. Staff are nice they gave me the room before the checkin time.

Perhaps tea/coffee facilities in the room? There was very little to complain about. I was not charged when my room was ready early and I checked in.

The location was excellent. There was no restaurant at the hotel, but two places right next door. There was a nice place to sit and hang out with charging stations and tea/coffer if you needed to wait for check-in or meet someone. It was walking distance from all the good sights and right near the river and the lake. Excellent value for money. It was easy to call taxis, and the subway was not far. There was also a nearby parking garage that they validated for half the daily cost.

Kiosk could not find my last name because I reserved 2 rooms (staff told me). Shower stall could have been retiled to more modern look like rest of room. Room lacks a minifrig.

Location is excellent, central, close to Michigan Ave, Millenium Park, Chicago Art Institute, Field Museum, River Tour, River Walk, Navy Pier, etc.. on foot or by short Uber ride. Room on 23rd floor is of decent size for downtown Chicago, clean, quiet. Nice 2nd floor lounge (but we were not told about it by front desk.) Parking is available only 3 blocks away for $25 a night. Front desk staff (especially Ronnie) is VERY friendly and helpful. He cheerfully helps us navigate through self checkin kiosk when we run into problems. Not to forget: just 1 block away is best pizza place in Chicago (Lou Malnati, 1 hour wait even with reservation)

    Trump's name outside our window.

Location, room clean and comfortable. Trump tower ruined my view looking out of our 16th floor window--so we kept the drapes closed so we would not have to look at Trump's (actual last name Drumpft)name.

    Everything was great.

The staff at the River Hotel are brilliant. I dealt with Pedro and Ronnie most and they were total stars. I also deal with two other kind colleagues. Nothing was too much trouble, endlessly patient and kind and every question was dealt with totally professionally. They were also dealing with a lot of customers too and all received excellent service. In fact some of the best customer service I have seen in 45 years of travel. The beds and pillars are out of this world in terms of comfort and certainly the best I have experienced in travel. A coffee machine in the room and the gracious house keeper were both great. Lovely shampoo and conditioner but maybe ditch the hand cream for shower gel. Location is perfection and the price is unbeatable. I will definitely be back. My room overlooked the water too and the light was heavenly. Keep up the great work all of you.

Great location. Right along the river in the middle of The Loop and around the corner from Magnificent Mile. Easy to pop out and pop back if you're between the many activities available in the area (I spent a lot of time going in and out between bookings and appointments in the city). Room was very comfortable and a decent size. WiFi a tad patchy but it rarely caused any issues. I had a slight issue with noise in the hallway from people going in and out of the rooms nearby, but I'd put that down to ignorant guests rather than the hotel itself. Staff were lovely and always eager to help with queries regardless of their nature. Vouchers were given on arrival for businesses/bars nearby which was a lovely touch. Absolutely no complaints about my stay and would definitely come back again.
