How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

liked everything -a country setting and secluded for a small group.
it was most welcoming after a long day . Host was helpful and accommodating our needs and , although a self catering unit, coffee, tea & milk were on hand . Two very cosy cottages -table laid for us.

We were contacted by them ahead of time, given clear directions and details of how to check in on arrival. We were made to feel welcome. Our privacy was respected at all times. We were impressed that our accommodation was cleaned every morning and towels replaced. Had a wonderful weekend stay.

Barrydale itself is a South African gem and the Blue Cow Barn just fitted in perfectly with the surrounds. The accomdation is authentic and stylish, clean and comfortable. Located at the foot of the Langeberg mountains and slightly outside the main town, one could get the feeling you were on a wine farm somewhee in Tuscany, Provance or in some other rural European setting. Although this is a self check in, the 2 friendly dogs were most welcoming on our arrival!

An extra comfy reading chair outside would be great?
Super location, interesting and unusual accommodation. Some rooms are smaller than others, of course, but all have good, very clean facilities and comfortable beds.

Simply nothing! Purrfect in every aspect
MOO IF YOU NEED ANYTHING! That is the way this gorgeous B and B operates. Nothing is to much trouble. This is my second long stay at Ansie's Cottage, over the last two months. A fabulous, safe, well equipped cottage with simply everything that you could need during your stay including the resident cat Mathewis in your bed, and Mina and Peanuts watching your front door. I even got spoilt with a piece of cheesecake! Very njam. The fact that they have incredibly good internet connection makes this a very reliable place to work from. I will be back in March. Take care and keep up to"fabulouness"and gorgeous garden. Best wishes. Liz CATS

Very good communication. Annette and Bertus Cooke went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and lavished us with their hospitality and kindness. Lovely setting in a peaceful, large garden. We had a special family reunion: enough privacy for everyone and large enough space and braai area to gather together. Wifi was very good. Even started the generator for us when load shedding hit. Will visit again.

Nothing really.
The friendliness of the hostess was lovely. The scenery was outstanding. What was really wonderful was the restaurant and the pleasure of having breakfast which was amazing by the way, on a wood deck overlooking a dam teeming with bird life and watching weaver birds building their nests. The evening braai was in a great peaceful area just outside the cottage.

Plan the showers as the hot water ran out.

Can do with a living area and a farmstyle fireplace to make it cozy (remove the single bed maybe?) and the Kitchen area is cold even with the aircon on full warm.

It was sad to see how COVID has impacted on Barrydale- esp with some of the small businesses closing and famous Karoo Art Hotel going under. Strength to them as we come out of this Pandemic.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Blue Cow. The setting was peaceful an idyllic and the host very attentive. Even the fires were laid out, we were told to completely relax and not even do dishes. The units were serviced daily free of charge.
