more airflow from crossventilation in the room -- needed to have the air conditioning on and I would have preferred to have outside air which because of the heavy light blocking curtains was not possible...

The Karoo is the driest part of the country, so they obviously have water issues and its hotter than other towns. This is obviously not in the guest house control, but something to be aware of. We were coming in from Cape Town, which was about 10 degrees cooler and arrived late evening, so I'm not sure if the air conditioning wasn't powerful enough or just that the day's heat had permeated into the walls and it took much longer to cool down. Our room had a couple of large mosquitoes. They did provide insect repellent, which we sprayed around the room - but then the room smelled of repellent instead of the lovely fresh smell that it had when we entered.

It was a very comfortable stay. Away from the highway and its trucks, so it was nice and quiet which helped with a peaceful sleep. Daisy the pug is a darling who welcomed us very enthusiastically. (she was let out to meet us after we said we were happy with dogs) Cape Karoo Guesthouse had a lot of additional features like add on breakfast, a pool etc. However, we only stayed here for one night, reached late in the evening and left early morning to enter the National Park as soon as the gates opened. So we didn't have the opportunity to explore these options. We were given a discount voucher for the place that we had planned to have dinner at, so that was a lovely bonus. Each room is decorated very differently. The Afri-Karoo room was quirky and adorable. The Dei Gratia room was much more standard, but had a lot more space. Each room had a microwave, tea station and a fridge in case you need to stay longer and want to warm up meals in your room.

The rooms are quite spacious and very clean. The gardens and upstairs deck are very peaceful and welcome after a long day on the road. The parking is secure inside their premises. The Guesthouse is on the outskirts of Beaufort West so it is quiet at night. There are limited options for restaurants although there is a KFC and Spur close by.

Great place with good security for kids to swim in the pool at night while parents sit on their stoep with a wine watching over them in a secured space.

The information on the placemats about the area, that changed my mind about Beaufort being just and overnight stay. These types of personal touches made the stay a wonderful experience. The garden cottage was beautifully decorated and spacious.
