How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

The Hotel on the Promenade is a beautiful boutique hotel just a few steps from the promenade. The location is excellent. The rooms are beautiful and cleaned very day. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic and by far the best we had in our 4 weeks travelling South Africa. Els and Luc were wonderful hosts and looked after us so well during our 9 night stay with them. The food in the restaurant is amazing and very reasonably priced so much so we ate there 6 nights out of our 9 night stay. This hotel is very homely, the staff are all really nice and provided great service. The hop on hop off bus stops just a few hundred meters away from the hotel. The sunsets in Seapoint are amazing and it is really safe to walk around both day and night. V&A Waterfront Camps Bay and the CBD can be easily reached by Uber which is very inexpensive within a few minutes. We would happily return to Seapoint and the Hotel on the Promenade again in the future. We would highly recommend this hotel to others. Thank you Luc, Els and all the team for making our stay so enjoyable.

We absolutely LOVED this hotel. Wonderfully friendly staff (and owners) who made us feel so welcome. Spotlessly clean rooms (with super showers) and excellent food.... breakfast included in the room rate too! In an ideal location for everything to enjoy in Capetown. Highly recommended.

I thought the room, its furnishings, etc were top class! The manager explained certain things within the room which avoided us having to ask subsequently. Location was also perfect.

Breakfast was paid for but only get served from 07h30 - which is a problem if you are in Cape Town for business and need to be at clients at 08h00 or even 08h30.

maybe scale down the furniture in the room

Hotel on the Promenade is a small boutique hotel. Close to the Sea Point Promenade and numerous restaurants and shops. A nice feature of my room was the large terrace.

Not a thing.
Hotel on the Promenade is an exceptional boutique hotel, where the service, hotel amenities, food is sensational. We are seasoned travellers and this hotel was a delight to stay in. We spent 4 days at the hotel, and it literally felt like home away from home. From the thoughtful touches in the room, to the friendly yet professional service, there was nothing lacking in our stay. The location was one block from the beach, and very convenient to restaurants and shops. This place is excellent value for money.

I liked everything: the extremely good food (compliments to the chef), the friendly staff, location in a friendly neighbourhood. Next time, I will take this hotel again! Easy to walk to the Waterfront via the esplanade.

Staff extremely friendly. Food is fantastic, prices reasonable. You do not have to go out for breakfast nor dinner. Are is safe. Lots of shops. You may walk to the Waterfront in 3/4 hour via the esplanade.

Nothing about the hotel, just a pity there are so many beggars in the area who keep approaching tourists. But i think this is a general problem in Cape Town.

Would have been nice if there were a little stool/ottoman to sit on in the bathroom/ dressing when drying your hair! We hired a vehicle so was not perturbed about parking in the street - will be a bit of an issue should we drive down to Cape Town to find a suitable parking for a Toyota Landcruiser!
It was awesome, so relaxing, truly a *home from home* experience! Luc went out of his way to accommodate my daughter, who made a surprise trip from London. Absolutely enjoyed our stay - it was both memorable and delightful! Comfy beds, great crisp white sheets and fluffy towels! The Somfy remote shutter was fantastic Loved the lounger on the patio. Cutie pie Bistro serving great food.!staff are excellent ,we will be back!

We only stayed one night, and it was perfect for a short stay
Location is great, in a calm street close to restaurants and boulevard. We arranged a pick-up from the airport which was handled nicely.
