Property needs maintenance but that is currently ongoing. Be careful of the bugs and bats but it’s quite common in the area no matter where you go. The towels and linen were not fresh, I found an insect shell (exoskeleton) in my towel.

The location was stunning. The rooms were spacious and the beds and bedding was very comfortable. No load shedding affected us during our stay

The kitchen needs an uplift. Not well equipped and all the knifes are very blunt making it difficult to prepare any meal. As a self catering accommodation this is quite essential. The accommodation also doesn't have WiFi and is not equipped to handle load shedding, e.g. No gas stoves etc.

Cindy was a great host and was attentive - our couch was broken which we raised on the first day and Cindy made arrangements to get us a replacement so we were comfortable for the weekend. Super super great location and views of the mountains - better than most other accommodation in the area. Bedroom was very comfortable.

The housekeeping needs attention and the interior is getting a bit tired considering the prize of accommodion. However, the setting is spectacular.

The setting is beautiful. Our hostess, Cindy made us feel very welcome

Simple self-catering in a beautiful location

The accommodation is very basic in terms of the self-catering amenities and could do with new knives, a coffee plunger, ensuring there's enough wine glasses etc. We had to ask for several items when we arrived but these were brought quickly and without fuss.

The location is absolutely perfect - incredible views from the patio and little rock pool. It's 750m from Monks Cowl entrance so our hikes started right from the property. We loved our evenings having a braai and watching the stars appear over the mountains. It was just amazing!!!

The price has increased significantly since being under new ownership. With the increase in price I would have expected a few more enhancements. ( kitchen crockery, stove and basic utensils are dated and mismatched).

We have been coming to Emafweni for 10 years now and the view and setting remain as glorious as ever. Cindy, the caretaker was available at all times, as was tge maintenance manager who assisted when tge geyser overheated.

The electricity situation. There are no gas facilities for cooking or boiling water during loadshedding. The power trips when geysers and steam tubs run at same time and cannot be switched on from inside the house.

The view!!! The steam tubs, rock pool and the proximity to the Monk's Cowl gate!

The facilities on the cabin were in a bad condition and needs some serious maintenance and renovations. The communication with the owner was hard.

    Nothing.

The view of Caithkin Peak is awesome. It was a privilege to wake up to it each morning. Good location for star-gazing. Great host and very warm welcome. Superb place to escape to. The property has recently changed hands and is undergoing refurbishment in all the cottages. Our pre-refurbished cottage was somewhat tired but everything was functional and clean; I look forward to staying again.

The main en-suite toilet was quite dirty and didn't smell great, which was a bit of a turn-off. Some of the bedding and utilities are slightly outdated and might need a little bit of a refresh.

The location alone is exquisite! Emafweni is really in the middle of nature! You are in the Drakensberg with the Monks Cowl Nature Reserve a few hundred meters down the road. Hiking trails are very close and easy to get to. We were in the quaint Lakeside chalet. In the evenings we had a braai and afterwards sat on the stoep enjoying the nature around us. We came a little bit under prepared, but luckily there are some well stocked shops close by, where we could buy our wood and fresh food. Jaw dropping beautiful views of the Drakensberg.

The location of this cottage is utterly spectacular! The view from the patio and the setting in azalea forests is just gorgeous. The accommodation itself was perfectly adequate - hot water, clean and comfortable. A little "tired" and shabby in places but no problems.
