Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

South AfricaSightings were a bit sparse, but you can’t control where the animals are on any given day! Guides were great at getting us out into many different areas of the reserve. The sightings we did see were awesome! The only thing to improve is the customer service of the person in the booking office. After booking on this site, I got notified that we needed to pay additional money for 2 guests per room. This was NOT accurate and I had to send screenshots of my booking to prove what I had booked. This was unnerving and the associate was not at all apologetic about the error on her part.
Hoyo Hoyo is an amazing place to enjoy the bush. The staff, chef and guides are all friendly and outgoing. The rooms and lodge are nicely appointed and comfortable. The food served at Hoyo is some of the BEST at any safari offerings we’ve enjoyed; seriously good!

United KingdomThe rooms could be a little lighter in colour (as it was quite dark and the lights didnt really help) and more plugs near the bed. The staff were great but at times during the day, they were not always easy to find to order drinks etc. The pool was freezing cold and quite murky so this could definitely be improved but overall an amazing trip.
The location was amazing and we saw elephants come to the watering hole behind the lodge which was incredible. The guide Jay was exceptional, he was super knowledgeable and passionate which made the game drives so fun each day. He went above and beyond each day to ensure we all had a great day, highly recommend him as a guide (5 star). The food was delicious and it was nice to have an opportunity to eat with the guide one evening and there was a selection of choices for each meal, and made to order breakfast when we returned from the morning game drive.

Everything! We fell in love we hoyohoyo! Exceptional place. The staff (Given, Moshe, Calvin, Harold, chefs ) were incredibly friendly and couldn’t do enough for us! It felt like paradise. Food felt like we were dining at a Michelin Star restaurant. Diverse menu so catered for all. The watering hole adds such a unique element to the lodge. We felt so fortunate to be so close to nature and to see all the animals come by each day.

NetherlandsWhat a great experience we had at the Hoyo Hoyo resort! I loved the architecture of the resort, the food ( best we had in all South Africa!) and the service and the staff, very welcoming and engaging! We stayed only 1 night but I would really recommend at least 2, it is such a nice place! Special call out to Jayden for the great gamedrives, it was really interesting and fun!

AustriaThe location is amazing, in the middle of the wilderness, with a waterhole in front of the porch, where elephants come to drink and bathe. It’s a little lodge, so very private and with a very good service. The food they serve is incredible and a lot! The safaris are just amazing, they care for you and offer you the full experience. The area is very nice with a lot to see. The people there are so nice, thank you very much for everything! I would definitely come back!!

United StatesMy husband and I absolutely loved our stay at Hoyo Hoyo. The staff was so welcoming and service was wonderful. Our driver Hali (Harley) was the kindest man, drove around for days helping us find what we were interested in. Very knowledgable and passionate about the game drives. If you have the ability, I would HIGHLY recommend this lodge. Very quaint and intimate stay, we felt like it was just us and the animals!

United Kingdom(this is a review for Imbali Safari Lodge as we have been allocated there on our arrival at Hoyo Hoyo) It was unforgettable and magical! We initially booked Hoyo Hoyo for 3 nights for our honeymoon, but on arrival, we were informed that we had been relocated to Imbali, only 10 minutes away. At Imbali, we found out that we were the only guests for the night, and that was a great surprise. From the first minute, we were treated like royalty, everyone looked after us so well. We did the check-in, left our belongings in our room, went for a Safari, and, on arrival back, were surprised with a very nice and private dinner on the deck looking at the pond. The day after, even with the arrival of more people, the hospitality remained the same quality throughout our whole stay. Andrew, our ranger for the 3 days we stayed there, was amazing! Very knowledgeable, engaging, truly respects and loves the wildlife, and makes the best hot chocolate with Amarula on the stop for a morning break in the savanna. Mary, the manager who checked us in and looked after us most of our stay, was always lovely and engaging, making sure we were having the best experience. Golden, France and all the team of people that work there were always lovely, going above and beyond. On the first morning we were there, we went to the main lodge to watch the elephants at the pond and France came with snacks, and offered us drinks and mimosas and everything. Later on, when we had already returned to the room, they gave us a call to inform us that another group of animals arrived there, so we wouldn't miss it. They were also always engaging, it was always a pleasure to talk to them and get to know them. Martha, who did my massage, is amazing! The food is outstanding (congratulations to the amazing chefs there!), everywhere is always clean and smells fresh, the rooms are incredible! The place is unreal, but what made it so special for us was the incredible people working there!

NetherlandsWhile there was nothing we truly didn't like, there are a few tips for improvement: Most staff was very friendly and attentive, but other staff simply seemed overworked or exhausted. Something to consider for the management of staff and schedules. The coffee quality and taste could be improved. We also think there's room to make Hoyo Hoyo feel a bit more youthful and energetic. It seemed to skew towards older couples while we were there.
Everything at Hoyo Hoyo made our safari experience unforgettable. From the friendly staff, to the amazing views and scenery, it was such a special trip for us. We really liked the feeling of being at home at Hoyo Hoyo and having time to relax and indulge (especially with food) in between game drives. The game drives we had were amazing and even on quiet days- Halle was such a great guide. He took every moment possible to teach us something about the wildlife and nature around us, both big and small. And his friendly and warm spirit were such a joy to experience throughout our time there. They also take the time to get to know guests and make you feel special while you're there. They made the safari experience the #1 highlight of our honeymoon trip to South Africa.

United StatesWe had a wonderful stay at Hoyo Hoyo Safari Lodge. The staff was so welcoming and friendly. From meeting the manager Harold on our arrival to servers such as Given, Ralph, Colbert, and Ezekiel. We were very well cared for. The food was excellent and made for a bit of an elegant experience. Dining on the patio was nice, and then we looked up at the watering hole just a few yards away and the animals started coming. To see elephants, buffalo, baboons, and a hyena while we were just eating dinner; remarkable. Our safari game driver Andrew was wonderful. Seemed to have a knack of finding the animals and knowing the deeper story. We loved Hoyo Hoyo.
