The location of Protea Hotel Clarens is excellent for a visit to the town. The facilities are well kept, neat and tidy. The staff is very friendly, helpful and efficient.

There wasn't enough parking at the hotel and I had to park on the street overnight, which is ok but the trees around the hotel drop sap. The breakfast wasn't great, the egg station was overwhelmed and they took really long to top up the juice and coffee stations as well as replacing glasses to pour into.

The location was excellent. It's in the town so everything is a walk away. The staff at reception were quite friendly but the bar staff and servers at breakfast were a little slow. The rooms are nicely sized with a good king bed. The water is free in the minibar which was nice.

The mirrors in our room were not clean, we could see finger marks from the previous tenants. A suggestion would be to book families with children in one wing of the hotel. We were kept awake by a screaming child in the room next to ours and had hardly any sleep due to this. Not the hotel's fault but definitely will help if families with young children are placed together and adults only on a separate wing of the hotel.

Location Location Location! The best in Clarens. Very friendly staff and our breakfasts catered for everyone's food requirements. Loved the variety in the dishes served every morning.

I didn't like the fact that there is no fitness room in the hotel. I also didn't like parking along the street as a hotel guest. Parking has to be prioritised for hotel residents only, alternatively have adequate parking. Whilst it is great to have local events hosted by the hotel, it would be great to be informed beforehand that there is a possibility of some "noise" as a result of a local event such as the arts festival.

The staff went out of their way to accomodate my request for a room with a view. The location is excellent!!! Enjoyed the breakfast.

The restaurant had nice looking cutlery and crockery but the knives were not sharp enough to cut through meat easily. For the price of the food, I would have expected better proportions - not just more chips/fries. The chicken wings were tiny. We also found a glass chip in the coating on a chicken wing. We had to ask for paper towels at the table because they were not replenished. They also ran out of wet wipes. On day 1, we ordered lunch and even though the restaurant was empty, it took more than 40 minutes to get items off the starter menu.

Breakfast was good. Lunch and dinner options were adequate. Linen was excellent. Rooms and bathrooms were clean. Located in the town so easy access to all amenities - restaurants, shops, etc.

They were renovating the restaurant so it was not possible to have dinner in the hotel. Breakfast was mediocre compared to other 4* hotels I have been.

The helpfulness of two staff members. Danielle and Juan. Our car battery had died. They helped us source a new one and jump start the car. They went out if their way. Use md their own car to jump start our. We are so grateful and appreciate your assistance immensely! Thank you so much. Due to your assistance we got home safely.

The hotel's communication on point. Emails were responded to promptly. Changes to booking was swift. Great service from arrival until departure. Great ambience as we stayed over the Christmas weekend.
