Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomI hadn’t realised I should have left my hire car in Rourke’s Drift Museum and got a lift from the lodge. The track in is 5km and too much for a small car - you need rugged 4 wd.
Brilliant staff - so kind and friendly

United KingdomAlthough we had a 4WD vehicle the road in is a great challenge although it gets you to a wonderful setting.
Spectacular views with banks of hills to the horizon and the deep quiet of the African bush. The staff were very attentive and the breakfast really good. We had a delicious and generous dinner one night and self catered the other night. Kitchen adequate and best for preparing simple meals.

United KingdomNothing - the track from Rourkes Drift to the lodge is pretty rough - no problem for normal 2 wheel drive with reasonable ground clearance if dry. Made the stay even more memorable!
Beautiful location, quiet, lots of wildlife. The lodge(no1) was spacious, clean, nicely decorated and comfortable. In a word luxurious! Definitely lived up to expectations. Lovely food. Very atmospheric.

FranceThe food was good and I am not a fussy eater but I would have preferred to have been consulted as to what was available and allowed to choose.
The location was super. It was quiet and peaceful and felt safe. I really enjoyed the whole experience. Though I was late arriving and because I had a small car I needed to be met and taken by a 4 wheeled drive vehicle to the Lodge - the driver was patiently waiting and on arrival at the lodge a very nice light lunch of fresh sandwiches and coffee were waiting for me. I highly recommend this Rorkes Drift Lodge as a very pleasant base for touring the Anglo/Zulu battles that took place in this area. My car was safely parked at reception in the Rorkes Drift museum area.

South AfricaPlace is excellent, well looked after. Just ensure that you tell travellers that they need a 4x4 to access the place. Work on your GPS as it ends on the main road. Advice people that you need to book for supper. Other than that, the place is excellent and staff attitude the best I’ve had in ages

AustraliaThe last 5 km to the lodge is a farm track that would have been better experienced in a 4WD. Would not recommend driving this in a 2WD if it has been rainy. Take the offered 4WD pick up from the Rorke's Drift Museum. There is very little internet connection.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The accommodation was spotless. I loved the way it was styled. The pool was very refreshing on the hot days. The food was delicious.

IndiaIf anyone travels here without a 4WD, he will be in trouble on the 5 km of road leading up from Rorke's Drift museum to the lodge. We had arrangements to park at the museum and then take the property's pick up 4 WD to reach the lodge. However due to some miscommunication, we followed the property's vehicle in our own car (VW Tiguan), and the road can put the thrill of a Disneyland roller coaster to shame, and certainly one you won't want to have. We had to stop the car in one place on the road, get out and shift our luggage as well as my daughters to the large vehicle in front, and then move up as the vehicle was unable to move despite maximum accelerator pressure. Also given the price, would have expected wi fi to be available.
The rooms are very very comfortable. The views of the rolling hillock in front from the room is splendid. The staff was very helpful. We had pre-booked our meals (you need to do it as the lodge is in quite a remote location) and had the most tasty food in our entire stay in South Africa.

United KingdomNot a dislike, I saw it as adding to the experience of staying here. The road down from Rorkes Drift to the lodges are only suitable for short wheel base 4X4's. I left my car parked at the Museum whilst a staff member picked me up in a Jeep, then dropped me back off in the morning. Definitely worth taking into account when booking.
The beautiful and remote location, but close enough to Rorkes Drift Museum to be convenient. The staff are very friendly and the food was brought to me in my lodge and it was delicious. The Lodge was very clean and comfortable. The shower was fantastic. I very much enjoyed my stay and would definitely stay again.

United StatesThis is a wonderful peaceful spot - we stayed for 3 nights. The road is a bit challenging but easy to pass in a high clearance vehicle in dry weather. The views from the lodge are magnificent, extending all the way to Isandlwana. It's well worth walking to the top of the hill behind the lodge as well as around the property. The staff were friendly and helpful and the accommodation was spotlessly clean and very well organized.

United KingdomBiggest issues that there was no management on site. There was a power issue due to lighting striking a transformer, although the staff still did what they could this effected power outlets and hot water, the water issue was dealt with & restored quickly. Owners / managers were only available to staff by phone, no on site support during a trying time yet the staff tried their best. It would have been helpful to get a text or call before we arrived about the power so we could have made a decision.
The staff were helpful & food exceptional. The views are breathtaking

United KingdomObviously the road was a nightmare. Do not drive but leave your car at the museum it is perfectly safe. Let the lodge ferry you back and forward. None of the literature we were sent was in date, so all the prices were incorrect. I stood my ground as I felt in principle that if you quote prices you should stick to them. No manager available to confirm one-way or another so all decisions had to be clarified by a phone call. The cost of the tour to Rorkes Drift was significantly more expensive than the literature which leads you to believe you have a number of alternatives, you have only one - the guide has no transport so you will need to use your own car. Again I stood my ground as I booked a tour with transport. Lots of phone calls and eventually the lodge provided transport. When the bill arrived I was charged for this but again stood my ground. Very uncomfortable for me and the young lady I was dealing with. They really need to get their act together if they want to make a success of this. Whoever 'they' are as we never really got to the bottom of who the owners/managers were.
The staff were delightful particularly the gentleman who ferried us around, he couldn't do enough to help. The food was delicious. Thulani, our guide was excellent and very knowledgeable. When you wake in the morning the view is magical. The room was comfortable albeit a little tired.
