Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

South AfricaThe road is quite bad (especially with the rain), and there was no wifi which was an issue as there is no cellphone network in the area.
It was beautiful. Very clean. Staff very helpful, as well. Well worth the money paid for the weekend.

South AfricaWhile out of control, there is no mobile coverage & failure of the provided wifi - making for difficult comms & staying in touch. Some general maintenance is required [broken windows, door latches broken & sliding doors not opening/closing correctly].
A perfect remote location, with well-appointed & designed lodges spread around the dam. Stunning views from the lodges & distant enough from one another for privacy.

South AfricaThe check-in process needs work. Ukuthela lodge is marked 'cosy cabin' so we droved passed it. We were not given the gate code before we arrived and there is no cell reception at the lodge so you cannot call anyone. Thankfully met a worker on the road who told us to turn back and gave us the gate code.
The lodge and location were spectacular. The staff were helpful and friendly.

South AfricaThe connectivity issues we experienced during our stay. We only had WiFi on the first night of our stay thereafter it stopped working and we feel nothing was really done to try and fix it as well as communicate with us. We were informed after we sought out information that someone was coming to fix it and then received no feedback on that process and it was not fixed up until we checked out on Sunday morning. We had to leave the property we were staying at to find network to connect with our loved ones who had been trying to contact us.
The property was just as breathtaking as in the pictures, it was also so private and peaceful. The staff was friendly and welcoming.

South AfricaManagers were non existent, we were snowed in and were meant to leave that morning - roads were dangerous (and we did not know the terrain). Managers did not even come and ask if we were okay and tell us what the roads were like and if it was safe to leave or not. (They just expected us to leave at 10am with our family at risk). Low visibility and thick snow. An emergency number is given by the estate but is never answered or call never returned - very concerning. Indemnity form is also very concerning - you are not made aware of this form before booking for this accommodation. Guests need to be made aware of this concerning form. Dangerous size gas bottles inside the house which ties up with the above form. Weber needed on the deck for poor weather - allowing holiday makers the chance to braai in any weather. My recommendation is walkie talkie or emergency WiFi in each of the houses for EMERGENCIES Only!!
Location was amazing!! Cleaning staff was amazing. House was great. So much more potential for this location if the below is sorted out. I did however get engaged at this amazing location!!

South AfricaDespite having a battery and inverter to negate loadshedding, these did not work! For this price we would have expected better. The first time we saw the estate manager was on the morning we left. There was no attempt by the estate manager to check if we had arrived safely or had any other concerns during our stay. No attempt was made by the estate manager to repair the inverter/battery which left us without power multiple times during our stay. Despite reaching out prior to our stay to confirm which route would be best to take, we did not receive (and have still no received) any response. We tried entering the premises via the southern gate nearest Boston only to find the gate locked. consequently we needed to travel around to the turning on the northern side and ended up getting stuck in mud through a construction site. fortunately a passer by was able to tow us out. very frustrating!
property was well appointed and set in a beautiful location

South AfricaThe lady that was assigned to clean our house was very surly when we arrived but I spoke to her and she apologized profusely after. Maybe she was having an off day but she made up for it afterwards by being super helpful. I just don't like that staff are not trained to be more welcoming. To get to the house was a bit difficult for me as I have knee issues. No parking directly at house. Lots of stairs to climb. Even to the dam there are a lot of stairs, I wish I'd known about that before I booked. I was not able to go out as much as I would have liked. I also suggest they add wifi extender to the bedrooms as it was difficult having signal only in the lounge/living area and unfortunately some of us had to still work remotely in a quiet place and that was difficult with all the kids running around. It would be lovely if they added a bit more activities to the place, for kids especially. For the adults maybe even a coffee shop or lounge with fireplace and restaurant where you can go if you don't feel up to cooking. Otherwise the place was amazing and I would recommend it to everyone I know. I must say the other houses are much easier to access as your vehicle parks right at your door. This house is the newest one and they are still busy working on the driveway. Because it's new tho it's stunning with all the little luxuries included.
I love the view of the dam and the tranquil setting of the whole place. The house was stunning as well. It's the most beautiful place to escape for a few days.

South AfricaThe road is a bit much for a car, although a car can make it a SUV/4x4 should be used, a car will add at least an hour to your trip. In the Inkanyezi lodge you will need to prepare to carry things back and forth up the stairs when packing and unpacking so be prepared for this.
Overall a great experience, everything in the house was working and in good condition. The beds and bedding is amazing and the view is breath taking. The house is extremely well insulated and once all doors and windows are closed and a fire is going it is very easy to forget how cold it is outside. Sufficient and clean crockery and cutlery. If not for the roads and the stairs I would've given a 10

South AfricaNo reception, so if you get lost eg Impendle/ Dargle turnoff is faded, so easily missed in the mist or dark. You should place a star Dam estate sign there or paint the sign, easy to miss we did in the middle of the afternoon No reception and could not communicate with lodge manager even with whatsapp No electric blankets/ hot water bottles in Ingleford, was very cold Water kept switching off and some of us had cold baths Fixing short segments of the road to the lodges would certainly make it more comfortable, if anyone had a puncture it would be difficult to get help as there is no reception
The location was beautiful, access there without a 4x4, is difficult Th main lodge had electric blankets, Ingleford did not and had no hot water bottles either, so it was cold
