Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

What's not to like? We were upgraded to a large suite, part of the separate villa, which was lovely. A warm welcome with attentive and pleasant staff. Safe and secure parking. Helpful throughout the booking process too. Possible to walk the coast from the place. The New Harbour is walkable as was the Rock, where we ate the first night, although we took the car as it was dark.

South AfricaThe villa has 5 or 6 rooms. Our suite was the biggest with a patio overlooking the pool. Unfortunately the other rooms were taken up by one group of visitors and they took over the entire area which curtailed our activities because we could not use the fireplace or the lounge in the evening. They also took over the entire pool area and we felt we were intruding when we tried to use the space. They were very boisterous and noisy. We had to go and use the main breakfast area because they had taken over the kitchen in the villa. On the last day we went for breakfast in the main area and were then told to go back to the other area because the guests had left. The communication could have been better and if the rest of the rooms are taken up by one group then be prepared to not have much privacy or peace and quiet.
The breakfast was excellent. The common areas were very nicely appointed and contained books, games and an honesty bar. There was also a lovely fireplace with comfortable chairs outside the lounge in the Villa section of the guesthouse. There was a pool in the main area and also at the Villa where there are 5 or 6 rooms. There are nice restaurants easily accessible at the New Harbour and the start of the Cliff walk is just down the road.

South AfricaThat we only booked 3 nights.
We booked the executive room which was not supposed for kids and they said they will make an exception. So thankful for that and it’s such a lovely room big enough for the kids to run around when it rained. Breakfast was brilliant & the kitchen staff exceptional.

United KingdomWas a little surprised at the location, as we had to drive down a fairly intimidating road with a lot of people about to get to the Lodge, which was only about half a mile further down. Wouldn't want to be doing that at night!
Friendly staff, good size rooms, lovely breakfast, secure parking. Only stayed one night and went out. But did have a few drinks in a very pleasant lounge area, so overall very satisfying

GermanyIt is situated right by some slums and if you arrive by the onset of dark from that side of town it is quite scary for a first time Traveller to SA. The property is safe though, but since there is no food service at night it makes you wonder whether you want to go out again.
The property is truly amazing. Its layout, the gardens and communal areas, the pool.

United StatesSome issues with mosquitos in room. Was hot during our visit, so wanted the windows open, but this led to disruptive bugs! The fan helped with this, but not possible during load shedding.
One of the most charming places I've stayed, and made for an outstanding stop on our ZA vacay! Visiting from the US, where the "guest house" does not exist as such. The quaint size, personalized service, amazing breakfast, generously stocked honesty bar, spacious room (we stayed in large garden suite), and amazing pool/grounds were highlights. Overall the character of the place was amazing. Old yet new, charming with modern amenities, friendly yet efficient, and affordable (bang for your buck)! Also of note is the prime location: Quiet, yet close to cliff walk, restaurants, beaches, etc.

United KingdomWe had an issue with a strong smell of damp in our room 6 bathroom which we reported on the first day of our 3 day stay. Very little was done to rectify the problem other than to run taps , no one asked us if things had improved during our time at the hotel which we thought was odd as damp / drains issues can affect health . There was also confusion over having to change rooms due to separate bookings , I did raise this when we checked in & was told I would be informed but this didn’t happen & we arrived back at the hotel to be told to pack up & move straight away . In short communication with guests could certainly be improved in our experience of both situations .
The quiet location which was walkable into town in around 35 mins , there were also good places nearer which we enjoyed walking 7mins to.The owners helped us with dinner reservations which was very helpful & we enjoyed both places booked . The town is quaint & has nice atmosphere & good quality restaurants/ shops

What to begin with. This place is simply amazing. I think the best place we stayed on our journey to western cape. We were lucky and we got upgraded so our room was huge with biggest bed ive slept on. I think the bed was 220cm so really huge. Whole place was simply amazing. I dont know why overall rate is below 9 to be honest. It was very fancy and nice. This place had 2 poold one huge pool with garden area and one little more private where we actually were alone all the time We stayed there 2 night and we charged our batteries very very much. We will definetely come back to this place because it was simply outstanding

Super comfy beds, large rooms, huge bathroom and just everything you need for a luxury experience. The breakfast was incredible and the staff so friendly and helpful. It is quite a walk along the beach path to the main part of town, but really worth it. The most breathtaking beach walk and quaint little town of Hermanus is just stunning.
