This was easily the best place I have stayed at... It was faultless. The standout for me was the staff. I thought the GM was the owner but he was just helping out his friend, the receptionist really gave me all the right advice, and a fellow Aussie working there took me out on the slopes and showed me how to go through the trees and powder.

Japanese-style rooms have a tatami (woven-straw) floor, a low table with seating cushions, and an LCD TV. They come with traditional futon bedding and yukata robes, while bathroom facilities are shared.

The location was excellent, close to the free shuttle bus pick up point to Nagasaka and a mere 6 min walk from the Shinden bus stop. The owner was super helpful and kind, going out of his way to help ensure that my stay was great. He offered a ride from the Shinden bus stop on arrival, and constantly checked on whether I needed anything else. He also readily provided information of the area, and provided guidance of where to eat around the hotel. The room was really clean and comfortable, and it was a really big room. A different snack is given daily too. Overall it was an excellent stay, and I would be happy to return again, if I can get a booking.

Just 100 metres from Nozawa Onsen Hot Spring Street, Shirakaba offers traditional Japanese-style rooms with a tatami-mat floor, futon bedding and an en suite bathroom. It has an indoor public bath and serves breakfast and dinner.

The best Ryokan-stay in the mountains. Booked the 4-5 beds duplex room (family room with shower). Nothing basic but super modern with 3 heaters, 2 bedrooms, livingroom. Very good tea, nice kimonos in the rooms. Location was just 350 m from the bus-stop (25min from train station), and a 3 min walk to the main street of the village with restaurants, shops, public onsen and a short walk to the ski areas. You get discount for ski rentals and you get a heated safe room to store ski gears next to the gondolas. Last but not least, the breakfast buffet was the best. Offered in a cosy breakfast room each morning from 7am onwards. Highly recommended place ! Showers, Japanese modern fully automated rinse and flush systems, ....

Our 4 days here were a highlight of our 3-week Japan trip. The Tomii family were incredibly friendly and helpful with every request (tea, restaurant reservations, taking delivery of our skis in advance and storing them, etc.) and their meals (we had 2 breakfasts and 1 dinner) were extraordinary - creative, locally-sourced, and copious. The facilities were very nice and the location is perfect a block from the center of town.

Good location, close to onsens and 10 minute walk to the gondolas. Breakfast was amazing and served on time each morning. The staff were very friendly and made the stay very comfortable. The futons and tatami mats were comfy to sleep on and the rooms are kept fairly warm with heating. It can get cold however, over night but the bedding was very warm.

We enjoyed our stay at Sawa, a traditional family run accomodation. Communal toilets, bathroom, onsen and dining. It’s basic but a lovely experience. Staff are very kind and friendly. We had a family tatami room and slept on futons. Good location, short walk to the first chairlift (ski hire & lift passes all available in same area) short walk to restaurants and onsen.

Traditional-style ryokan with very elegant look. Fresh tatami floors in our room and everything was well maintained or new. Friendly helpful staff. Good location - in the heart of the village and a short walk to Yu-road travelator to Hikage gondola (you can leave your ski gear overnight at the ski hire places there, so a bit of a walk to the ryokan is fine). Good in-house onsen, and several other public onsens nearby.

Our room was amazing - super spacious, beautiful views, authentic Japanese feel with futons and tatami mats and the temperature was perfect. The location was also impeccable - 2 minute walk to the ski resort and ~5 minute walk to many cafes/restaurants/onsens etc. Nice and spacious communal area with comfortable couches and lovely views. The Japanese hosts were very friendly and helpful. There were no regular private showers but instead a public bath on site - lovely after a cold day skiing. It was also very quiet.
