Boasting garden views, The Keep at Craigiehall features accommodation with a garden and a balcony, around 6 km from Edinburgh Zoo. The Keep at Craighie Hall is a hidden gem right outside the city of Edinburgh and close to the airport. Our welcoming and warm hostess, Roxana, stayed late to ensure we would be able to get our keys and to show us the house features. She brought bread, marmalade, honey, butter and milk and fresh raspberry croissants for us as well. Roxana impressed us with her warmth and care and had suggestions for taxis, restaurants and nearby stores. We loved her! The Keep is beyond gorgeous in a splendid setting on the rise of a hill overlooking the tree line of the River Almond below a rippling expansive field of wheat. There is a cluster of picturesque white cottages in the distance to the right while the airport is to the left. Do not let the fact there is a nearby airport deter you from staying here! Planes were occasionally taking off and flying overhead in early morning until evening but it wasn’t a constant noise factor for us. The view from the upstairs living room was so breathtaking that I wanted to imprint this visual memory forever in my heart. It is a painter’s dream of paradise! There is a lovely upstairs terrace with plants and a beautiful garden surrounds the front and back as well. The tower was built in 1759 and is a masterpiece in stonework. This is only available for two people whereas my adult children and I stayed in the beautiful added on house and had our own lovely downstairs bedrooms with private bathrooms to use. The bathrooms have wonderful modern showers! The house is tastefully decorated. The cozy green kitchen is downstairs as well and has an efficient washer/dryer combo, refrigerator, microwave, stove, coffee maker and electric kettle and dishes, pans for use. The most wonderful feature however is the wooden clothes rack suspended over the kitchen table and you feel so at home that you can almost visualize your grandmama clad in her apron cooking something marvelous at the stove, with dish towels drying on the wooden pulley rack above!

Stunning Building, grounds and location. Staff were incredibly friendly and approachable. Room was stunning and very comfortable. Food was very good and breakfast was probably the best I’ve ever had. Only negatives I have is air con in room didn’t match up with instructions in room information booklet so couldn’t really use it and therefore even with provided fan on room was warm. Also guy on reception desk at night when I had a question was quite rude and unapproachable. Other than these 2 minor things , this was quite simply one of the best hotels I’ve bet stayed in. 9.8 out of 10 Would 100% stay here again !
friendly and welcoming service. bedroom excellent backed up by a outstanding restaurant. good site to visit Edinburgh with a park and ride 4 miles away. restaurant had a lovely view looking on to the canal. plenty parking on site. would recommend anyone to stay.
We arrived about 12.15pm I liked it from the minute I stepped into the building, it was beautiful. All of the staff we met in check in were so helpful. They gave us our room Key, that was the biggest surprise knowing check in was at 3pm. The Continental breakfast the next morning was so special. Thank you so much We will be back
We stayed at Orocco Pier in the middle of the High Street which has fantastic views of the Three Bridges over the Forth River. Enjoyed a great meal at Scott’s at Port Edgar Marina. Free parking for customers. Lovely cafes and coffee shops available. Parking can be difficult but we’ve managed each time we’ve visited.
Ratho exceeded all of our expectations. We'd booked the end of our 10-day Scotland trip near the airport (which is less than 10 minutes away), and so thought this might be a less than perfect part of town on Edinburgh's outstretches. But, not at all. Ratho is charming, quaint, with lots of nice walking in town or along the canals.
