It was OK - depends on how much experience you have with wild life in other parts of the world. The walk is about 40 minutes each way. The monkeys completely ignore the gawping humans, which is great. Unique experience but getting there and back using public transport was challenging

If you are going in winter wear some proper shoes as it is...
If you are going in winter wear some proper shoes as it is icy, muddy and wet. Try to go in the first half of the day as you see the monkeys chilling out before the staff start to feed and interact with them.TinaNew Zealand - 10Scored 10
I was there early enough to watch the monkeys coming down...
I was there early enough to watch the monkeys coming down the mountainside to the hot spring/feeding area. It was amazing to see them travelling single file down and they were most active when they first arrived. Try to arrive early.

Right in front of the hotel was a bus stop that went to the park. The hotel itself doesn't offer breakfast, but they work together with a hotel nearby for a traditional Japanese breakfast which was a really nice experience for a good price! You also had the possibility to reserve a private indoor onsen, which was a fun experience. They also provided yukata's that you could wear in the room and when going to the onsen.

They picked me up from the Yudanaka station and then drove me to the Jigokudani monkey park entrance the next morning. I also did the dinner and breakfast and it was a highlight of the stay. The onsen on the property is great and I liked the yukata they provided. It's about a 10-15 min walk down to Shibu Onsen if you want to walk around and get some drinks or food.traveltoeatUnited States
