Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWas cash only and there only seemed to be 2 toilets (1 male 1 female) and 4 showers for the building. Also no place to get dressed privately after shower unless you grt drrssed under the wet showerhead
Location gave superb views over the city! But be prepared to either pay for the elevator beisde the nearby museum or find a hiking trail nearby (google maps offers little help due to tunnels) The staff were super friendly and a fantastic breakfast for just 5euro

It is located at the top of city as a part of old castle. Also there is a restaurant which you can eat by seeing city. Dormitory room was small but clean. The staff was very helpful and kind

United KingdomBreakfast only offered from 9am.
Still the dog's proverbials in terms of location, value for money, view of the city, friendly atmosphere, menu options for lunch and dinner, quality of food, etc. Can't praise it highly enough. Forget the over-priced town centre, the Stadtalm is the best address in Salzburg.

United KingdomAll food options end early and breakfast is served quite late. So don’t pre-pay if you’re going to leave early (before 0900)
Nice old building in a unique location. fantastic views of Salzburg. Just be prepared for a hike up if you don’t get the lift.

Spainthere are Monitors at both ends of the aisle which connected your room to bathroom,so it is inconvenient and feel awkward in case you not put very well your clothes and found there are monitors towards you! another thing is the hotel on the top of a small hill, very difficult to reach there at night, There are several complicated tunnels, navigation is ineffective in it, it is easy to get lost, it’s better to take a taxi to get the hotel!
the bed was comfortable , the viewing was very good!

PortugalThe explanation of how to get there is not so clear. I spent some money on the lift to save me time and inconveniences, but you can actually reach by foot. Make sure you check both ways of how to get to the hostel.

We loved the location, perfect place to sit on a hot summer's day. The staff was friendly. View and food in the restaurant were fantastic. The room was small, exactly as I expected, just fine for one night stay. Shared bathroom was clean.

United KingdomShared bathrooms and toilets kept very clean, my only issue was the showers turn off every 10 seconds which is not a big deal but a bit annoying to keep pushing. Wifi didn't reach my room.
Great location over looking Salzburg, just be mindful you cannot drive to the top. Everything was clean, great price with breakfast included. I got unlucky with the one room that was on the next floor up quite a dangerous staircase, especially when carrying luggage but the other rooms are easily accessible.

GermanyThere was no desk, coat hook oder any place to lay down "things" in the room. On the second day, the kitchen closed much earlier, than the day before, i did not have information about, so i could not get a meal. And finally, in a "hostel" from experience I somehow expect a room to sit or just to stay in the evening and some place to make an own meal or a fridge to store things - there was unfortunately no possibility. But now I know about this and would still go there again, because it is just beautyful to be there!
Great Location and a great view! Friendly staff, which also made this or that possible, e. g. a forgotten towel oder a room change. Everything was clean and inviting, I enjoyed my stay. I enjoyed also to drink some wine and coffee at the terrace and while having this nice view over the city.

United KingdomYou don't book Stadtalm if you want a luxury en-suite room with lots of facilities. You go there for superb views and staying in the battlements of an old castle! The restaurant stops serving food at 6.00 p.m. and drinks at 7.00 p.m. in the summer, so plan ahead, as it is a long, steep walk to Spar for a snack, or to go to a city restaurant!
Stadtalm is in an incredible position, high above the city of Salzburg, with 180 degree views over the old city and in to the mountains beyond. It is a popular place for people to come for a drink or coffee and serves good food, in an outdoor seating area. The rooms seem to have been recently refurbished and were very clean. Of course, there are no en suites, so expect to walk a few yards to the shared showers/toilets. The internet worked well. There are no TV's, but you get a 5* view, better than the top hotel in Salzburg instead! There are a lot of steps (320 I think) to get to the Stadtalm, but you can also use the lift to the modern art gallery (charge) and then there is a 300 metre quite easy walk with no steps.

Brazilthe bathroom was a little far from my room and I wish I had more information about the fact that I had to take the lift.
the place is clean and calm, especially the bathroom, also the view is also amazing! Staff was very very nice in helping me to carry my bags from the lift to the hostel. Even though I had to use the lift I only bought one ticket and used it to go up with my bags and down with them again when I left, the stairs are super safe and ok to use on the rest of the trip.

AustriaProbably should have read the emails a bit more in detail but we did not realize that we would have to go up 16 flights of stairs and then wander the woods for 200 meters to get to the place. It would be good to provide some more information about the elevator and it’s hours because it is not open late.
The location is absolutely fantastic- probably the best view of Salzburg you can get anywhere. Beds were comfy and everything was really clean and nice- I didn’t expect it for a hostel but it was great.

PortugalWe travelled by night and arrived very early to the property. We were able to leave our baggage there before the check in at 15:00 but we were not allowed to have breakfast.
The location was definitely the best of our stay - it takes a bit of effort to arrive at the top, but it is totally worth it! By day and by night the view is beautiful, and the area is very calm and in the middle of nature (and also near the castle). The decoration is also very gorgeous and peculiar (both rooms and restaurant).

HungaryWe didn't expect the location to be on top of a hill which needed to be reached by climbing stairs for 15 mins. Climbing with the luggages is a bit of hard task, also very tiring after a long extensive all day city tour on foot.
Amazing view given it is located on top of a hill, it gives a magnificent view of the entire city and the surrounding landscape and mountains. The staffs were very nice and energetic.
