Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SwitzerlandThe system of finding your key with the code is lamentable - sign said to use 4-digit code, but code from booking.com was not correct. Finally realized there was a note with our name with another code, which is silly and not secure and also difficult to read. Just email us a code, secure, direct! It felt exactly like an escape room, but trying to figure out how to get IN instead of out. I can't even remember what finally worked... Same thing happened to next guest after us, whom we were able to help at midnight... It worked out, but seemed unnecessarily complicated.
View outstanding, but of course a hike to earn it! Once you get used to those stairs it goes more quickly but the first hike up with bags was grueling. Clean clean clean, very safe feeling place, youth hostel vibe (but super clean!)

United KingdomThe bunk beds in the dormitory I was in were not comfortable - very basic and crowded. It was also at the top of a windy staircase and hard to get to especially with heavy luggage - so highly recommended to pack light if staying here.
The views from the Stadhalm over the city of Salzburg were stunning, especially whilst having breakfast in the innermost room of the restaurant. The staff were friendly, kind and accommodating. The food was also very good for the price.

AustraliaThe main thing was the other guests unfortunately being extremely anti-social and rude by coming in late at night and slamming doors, screaming down the halls and banging.
I was so ecstatic with the location of this stay. Though it was a long hike uphill to get there, the views and serenity was worth it.

Germany1. The location on Google map is not very accurate 2. As it’s a cold place located on the hill, it’s not possible to sit outside the hostel and there’s no sitting area after 5:00 pm and mostly doors are closed. You have to sit/sleep in the bunk bed. If you have some work to do, you can’t because of this reason.
The location and view was spectacular! also worth it for the price.

View from our two bed room was amazing. We didn't have breakfast. Location was great. Situated on top of a hill. Therefore, expect a lot of climbing by stairs. However, the view from the hostel was breathtaking. Located at top of Salzburg. Toilets and rooms were very clean. Blankets could have been a bit thicker and warm. Rest was fine. Wifi stength was excellent.

FinlandEven though the place was gorgeous, getting there was a bit difficult. Roads leading there were narrow and had sharp turns, and we didn't have the courage to squeeze through with our rather large rental, so we left it in the city and walked to the place. But this we should have expected, since the place was quite high up in an old city. Towels would be much appriciated to include.
The location was great and the view from our room was gorgeous! The staff was really nice, and they went out their way on a busy day to help us figure out a space for our car. Facilities were nice and tidy.

GreeceThey should warn you about the location and how to get there! The hostel is on top of a cliff, and you have to walk a lot of steep steps to get there. The other way is to pay 3-4 euros (!!) to use the lift of the museum next doors. Definitely NOT WHEELCHAIR FRIENDLY.

AustraliaThe stairs! We had to walk up 340 stairs to get to the hotel. We did not realise this. We arrive late so the lift was closed and it was raining. We had 3 kids and 2 large suitcases and 5 backpacks - that was not fun! It is a dorm room style with 4 sets of bunks. the room was tiny - not much space for all our suitcases (2 adults 3 kids). No towels provided so we could not have a shower. Shared bathrooms. No one around to ask any questions.
The view from the hotel was amazing. It was nice that breakfast was included. Check-in was contactless (key in a box at the door on arrival). Beds were comfy, sheets and everything were all clean, there was a heater. Once you knew where it was and how to access it, it was fine.

New ZealandWe originally didn’t have towels. Easily amended when we asked the friendly staff. A bit tricky not having any kitchen facilities available to us when the restaurant doesn’t open until 10am. Would have liked a jug to make a coffee at least. This was okay because we planned ahead and brought canned coffee :) We found a good taxi driver (in a small car!!!) who was able to drive us directly to the property but the map address was not accurate and took us a little too far. Minor things for an all round brilliant stay.
Amazing view, what a special place to stay. Staff were also very helpful and friendly. They let us drop off our bags early and the food at the restaurant was fantastic! The view was beautiful! Room and bathrooms were clean and tidy.

AustraliaThere's no reception area or maps so checking in was a little disorganised and I wasn't able to get a map for orientation. I was upstairs (up a tiny set of steep stairs) which were a little frightening to go up and down, even though I'm quite capable. The bathroom has 2 showers with frosted glass but not enough room to dress in, and no lock on the door, so it was a little uncomfortable doing what I needed to do after a shower, not knowing if someone would walk in at some point - perhaps a screen between the door and shower space would help... Communication regards what was on offer was not really there. Apparently they do breakfast (but not until quite late) and apparently they open as a Cafe sometime in the mid-morning but I didn't see anything to tell me this. My room was sweet but very tiny and the luggage lockers were also very tiny, resulting in 6 people in a small room with luggage on the floor. Despite these things, next time I stay in Salzburg, this is the place I want to be 🥰
This is a gorgeous location, a nice hike or an elevator ride away from Salzburg old town. The hostel is very sweet and the young men who seem to be running it are as helpful as they can be - it's a language thing rather than them not wanting to be helpful. The location also has parkland nearby and fabulous views - it really is a very specialplace

United StatesIt is loud late into the night and early in the morning. I put AirPods in to sleep and that worked just fine. There are a lot of stairs to get up to it but there is a lift by the museum but it closes at 9pm and you must pay.

AustraliaExpensive to use lift and taxis up there
Amazing view, clean and comfortable, use the modern museum lift for 8.70euro for family to get luggage up the hill. Taxis don’t seem to want to pick you up due to narrow lanes so best to get lift down hill and try from the base of museum. Great food. May beech to book a table on weekends. Breaky is only one option though.

AustriaGetting to Stadtalm, even though it looks very central, is a bit of a hike. Even though it looks very central on the map, because it's so hight, you need to walk around until you find stairs or ramps to descend into the Altstadt. On your way back, you will need to be able to climb quite a bit. This ended up being charming for us. But if you have mobility problems or if you are travelling with more luggage, be warned. There were no towels provided.
Charming old house built on the edge of a cliff and adjacent to the medieval city fortifications. You have an amazing view both from the room and from the restaurant. The surroundings are green, calm, and filled with fortifications and other historical buildings, perfect for walks both leasurely and sporty. The room was warm and the beds comfortable. Common toilets were clean.
